Hollywood, USA - the place were movies are made (sort of) ... so what
better place to live for two struggling actors (Josh Mitchell, Josh
Thrower) - however, Hollywood's a total shithole when it comes to public
transport, and auditions are all over the Los Angeles metro area ... in a
word, you need a car, and a car needs gas - and gas is getting more
expensive by the minute. So the two, not exactly blessed with wealth,
decide to siphon gas out of their neighbours' cars - well, ok, it's
illegal, but it's just a temporary thing, pretty much until pilot season
is over, right? Wrong, because one of the two (Mitchell) gets greedy and
figures there's good money to be made with siphoned gas if he sells it on
to Mexican smugglers. To sell some he of course has to siphon some, to
sell more, he has to siphon more, and, well ... let's just say, one of the
things about gas is that it's flammable ... Siphoned is,
above all, a sweet film, a film that shows the plight of struggling actors
from the perspective of, well, people who have actually gone through this,
and it does so with humour but without malice or too obvious jokes. That
said, Siphoned is not without its flaws, its narrative buildup is
less than perfect, the characters remain a tad flat, and once things start
to get interesting (and explosive even) the film actually ends ... ...
but that said, it's also a film that puts a smile on your face
because it's got heart and humour in all the right spots. Oh,
and if you want to watch Siphoned right now and for free (don't worry,
it's legal), go here: https://vimeo.com/58756500
