There's madman called Meat Head (Lee Valak) on the prowl who looks ...
well, exactly what you'd think someone called Meat Head would look like if
you took the name literally. And this Meat Head has set his site on both
personnel and clientele of gyms around town, leaving behind a trail of
blood - and exactly on the day Vanessa (Vanessa Decker) starts her new job
as fitness trainer at one of Meat Head's "favourite" gyms ...
Now here are two things that really made the 1980s (even if neither was an
invention of the decade), slasher movies and fitness videos - so it was
only a matter of time until someone combined them. And frankly,
Slashercise leans a little bit into the latter for my taste,
showing workouts full length rather than focussing in on the punchlines -
and there are plenty as most of the workouts are actually slasher-based.
The problem here is that the plot then takes backseat and there is as good
as no character development let alone arcs. But the film sure is funny
still, the killer's mask is a hoot, the gym-based killings are inventve
and the slasher based exercises at least worth a chuckle - so even if a
work-out is the last thing you need right now, there's a fair chance you
will feel entertained. And if you're a fan of horror movies, you'll
probably get a kick out of spotting quite a number of big names of the
indie horror scene in small parts.
