It's really not Yolnar's (Stephen Miller) day: First his car breaks down, then he misses the bus, then his girlfriend Sib (Samantha Green) breaks up with him via text message, and when he finally arrives at work inexcusably late, two of his colleagues spike his drink, which turns him into ... an insane super villain, wielding a mighty hammer to maim and kill - well, pretty much everybody who is standing between him and Sib ... and I mean this quite physically, as he's heading to the climing park where she's having a date with her new beau Nash (Jeremy Castaldo). And he's not too choosy whom to kill either, his victims ranging from a local superhero to the town's bad guy (Jamie McDaniel), from hot college babes to men cheating on their wives, pregnant girls and wannabe fathers, and an entire BMX gang just to top things off. Oddly enough, Sib finds all of this weirdly romantic ...

Now while my synopsis of Sledgehammer might sound like a by-the-numbers genre flick, this one's actually bat-shit crazy: Basically it combines elements of a really over-the-top soap opera with scenes of utter violence, but combined in a very trippy sort of way where several of the narrative threads are resolved only in the afterlife, and the violence is often filmed in a rather abstract and definitely avant garde sort of way, and all of this is peppered with a healthy sort of humour that definitely doesn't shy away from bad taste, and a love for horror and action flicks from bygone eras - and all of this results in a piece of utter but highly intertaining madness!!!
