Riding through Kentucky in search of a fortune in gold, a drifter (Jake C.
Young) is forced to take refuce in an obscue church by a snow storm - it
was really just out of necessity, but the resident priest Red (Jeremy
Boggs) and his consorts (Audri Courtsinger, Joseph McDowell, Gage Carnes)
think he's after their gold and their "artifact", and soon lay him in
chains. Now that's bad enough, it's even worse when the drifter finds out
they''re all religious nuts who might not be as "Christian" as they want
to appear to be, and that Red considers himself as the "chosen one" and
takes the drifter for his challanger for the title who needs to be
eliminated ...
Now here's a fun one: Sure, the premise is all western staple (if some
mythological elements kick in early on), but the longer the film lasts,
the more it drifts into the paranormal, with all its talk about artifacts,
otherworldly entities and the like, only to move back into western
terrritory in the finale And that this works quite so well is thanks to a
atmosphere-heavy directorial effort that works both in western and horror
alike, coupled with a script that's as clever as it's layered - and the
result is a very enjoyable genre blend for sure.
