In the last 15 years, Angelo (Joseph A. Halsey) has worked his ass off
getting the syndicate to where it is today, has even succeeded in giving
it a legitimate front to hide all illegal activities behind - to such an
extent that nowadays, the occasional visits by FBI agent Cappelli (Russ
Camarda) are nothing more than a bit of a bother. Sure, Cappelli tries to
square off with Angelo verbally, but at the end of the day they both know
Cappelli has nothing in his hands to pin on Angelo, nothing at all. Thing
is, Cappelli is under pressure to produce results, so eventually he sees
to it that Roman (Michael Riccio) is released from prison prematurely -
and Roman is the former head of the syndicate who has been arrested some
15 years earlier, something Angelo might have had his hands in. But now
that he's out he wants to reclaim what's his, at any cost ... A
cleverly written and elegantly directed little gangster tale, a film like Stand
Up Guy, which is essentially a dialogue piece, would be nothing were
the actors not up to the task - but fortunately the film benefits from a
very fine ensemble cast with actors who not only deliver fine performances
but also look their parts, making this one a great little film!
