For their webshow Spooky Saturday, two friends (Dylan Redshaw,
Jacob Botting) decide to perform a ritual to bring back the Thin Man,
an alledged magician who was starved to death in the 1800s. But the ritual
is probably the most boring thing they have ever experienced, as exactly
nothing happens, and when they review the footage later, they still can't
find anything interesting about it ... if only they would turn their heads
away from the TV to see something paranormal has entered their house ...
and before long, our witless explorers of the paranormal have to realize
they have bitten off a bigger bite than they can swallow ...
The Thin Man Part 3 certainly doesn't reinvent horror
as such, but it's a fine found footage miniature that has its respect for
narrative structur going for it (something abandoned all too often in
found footage movies) and really builds up the terror, places the shocks
in all the right places, and profits from a finale that actually makes
good use of the limitations of the found footage approach. Well worth a
look at least.
