It's Shane's (Drew Kenney) bachelor party, so his best friend Marty
(Paul Gennaro) thinks it's a good idea to take him to Las Vegas to meet up
with their former best friend Gavin (James Liddell), who has since
launched a fairly successful movie career. However, things are a bit tense
between Shane and Gavin since back when Shane screwed Gavin's ex. Plus,
Gavin is currently struggling to stay sober, which is high time, really,
but of course a bit of a buzzkill since the three of them are waiting for
the stripper Marty has ordered for Shane who runs late, and now they have
to kill some time - and it's then old wounds are starting to open up,
which only comes to a head when the stripper Marty has ordered
coincidently turns out to be Gavin's girlfriend and sobriety buddey Addy
(Levy Tran). Of course things can only go downhill from there, especially
when Gavin calls his pusher from way back (Gino Cafarelli), and Gavin goes
missing soon after, but eventually Marty and Shane realize they must
overcome all misgivings to make the night a success after all - but it's
Vegas, where you never know in whose favour the cards are stacked ...
A pretty cool film that manages to mix a slice-of-life
approach with utter drama and at the same time avoids coming across as
biased or trying to hammer its message home thanks to a fly-on-the-wall
approach, and the limitation to just one location for most of the time
really helps here - as does a script of course that handles its central
dramas with enough subtlety, and a bunch of solid, believable
performances.
