Vault of Terror is a collection of four movies, held together
first and foremost by filmmaker Sean Weathers as such:
- Maniac Too! is the only
film of the quarted he actually directed, and it's a hard-hitting and
bleak sort-of hommage to William Lustig's Maniac,
but tries to go even further.
- Abel Ferrara's The Driller
Killer, with an introduction by Weathers, is quite obviously a
film he was inspired by, as Ferrara's work in general shines through
in quite a few of Weathers' films.
- Now it's safe to assume any self-respecting horror fan has seen
George A. Romero's Night
of the Living Dead quite a few times, but it's interesting
what Weathers has to say about his in his intro and outro, as neither
him nor his co-host Aswad Issa seem to be the biggest fan of the
movie, and they take it apart quite a bit.
- A Good Samaritan
in New York City is a short parable directed by Sean Weathers'
frequent cinematographer and producer Aswad Issa that reportedly also
marks Weathers' debut as an actor.

Now many will call this collection rather random, or claim that both The
Driller Killer and Night
of the Living Dead are only included because they're in public
domain (almost certainly, this was a factor), and Weathers needed
something to showcase his Maniac Too!
better - but Weathers and Issa's comments actually help to make one
understand low budget filmmaking better ... and while neither The
Driller Killer nor Night
of the Living Dead suffer from too little exposure, they are
two landmarks of indie cinema nevertheless.
A collection well worth its money mind you.
