It was supposed to be a romantic date: Amber (Chloe Hendrickson) would
come over to Ben's (Erik Searle), a man she has been seeing for a while
now without ever having been to his house, and he'd cook for her, and then
... and then suddenly she finds herself chained up in his basement, next
to a boy (Boy-Yo Korodan) who's also chained up. Ben comes to feed her,
tries to calm her down, and it doesn't seem as if he meant her any harm
... he just seems to be mortally afraid of the boy - which, if at all
possible, worries Amber even more ... A cleverly told and
well-played short movie that narratively follows the structure of an
old-fashioned (but nevertheless effective) short story, complete with odd
twists and a surprise ending (even if it's somewhat more predictable than
intended, probably), all of which is carried by a direction that gives its
story space to unfold and picks up on the creepy bits without overdoing
them. Pretty cool, really.
