Snake (Patrick Lindhorst), a reptile-like being that has taken human
form, has been sent to earth by the Desolate One to destroy the Special,
for some reason the Desolate One's arch enemy. But upon meeting "the
Special", a harmless and good-natured stoner named V (Danny Backer), Snake takes an
instant liking in him, and vice versa, so instead of killing V he moves in
with him - and learns the ways of the humans, experiences first love, the
scam that's religion, and mere human assholery ... and tries his best to
fit in - much to the dismay of the Desolate One, naturally, who then tries
to kill V himself, so Snake has his hands full protecting him. And not
just from the Desolate One, also from a creepy otherdimensional
body-hopping being called the Parasite, his very own ex (Audrey Nilssen) he can't fall out
of love with, a very human bully (Aaron Fronk), and the Mouth of Dog
(Orlando Lara), V's personal guru
- and even for Snake's supernatural powers, some of this is too much to
handle ... Part fantasy horror, part stoner comedy, part
superhero yarn and part sitcom, Year of the Snake is a pretty wild
mix ... that works though thanks to its very laid-back approach, its will
to run with wild ideas without milking them to the very last, and its
likeable brand of humour. Now add to that some colourful and fun
characters, silly situations they're thrown into, and intentional leaps of
reason, and you've got yourself a piece of fun entertainment.
