Two happy-go-lucky girls, the rather timid Winona (Megan Lockhurst) and
the adventurous Sam (Rosie Pearson), skip a day of college for a stroll
through the woods ... when they happen upon an abandoned school bus. It's
not too long before they hear some child-like grunts, too, which creeps
out Winona but sparks Sam's sense of adventure ... but it's more than just
an "adventure" when the girls are attacked by carnivourous
zombie children ... Fan fave Jon Campling plays the zombie icecream man
who keeps the litle zombies happy. Zombie Playground: Ice
Scream is a little genre miniature that shows how much fun even a
genre as formulaic as the zombie film can be with a few original ideas and
twists added to the proceedings. Sure, the film doesn't exactly re-invent
the genre as a whole, but the zombie children are more than just an
inspired idea and are genuinely creepy, Jon Campling as the ice cream man
is just so much fun by himself, and the characters are properly fleshed
out in the little time we spend with them - and solidly acted on top of
that. Great fun, actually!
