Tim (Patrick McElroy) is convinced he has been abducted by aliens - but
not once nor twice, but multiple times. He never minded though, made
friends with the aliens, even claims that he has an alien girlfriend. None
of this is to say his claims are legit, but at the same time he has over
the year become a bit of a legend in the circle of UFO spotters and alien
seekers, for whom "the truth is out there," and his story is
apparently interesting enough for a crew of documentary filmmakers who
follow him around ... and witness how things come to a head when his
brother and sister (Huntington Daly, Laura Bair) want to stage an
intervention - with not the desired results ... Films about
"alien abductees" are probably a dime a dozen, but what makes
this one special is that it doesn't present us with a human freakshow of
weirdoes but relatable characters. Sure, Tim is awkward, but he seems to
be perfectly happy with who he is and who treasures his experiences - real
or imagined -, and in this respect might be more "right" than
his brother and sister who want to force him into a cookie-cutter
"normal" life. This all is of course achieved by a very low key
directorial effort that avoids spectacle, and a very likeable central
performance by the film's writer Patrick McElroy. And the light-footed
tone the film has throughout really works well to suck one into the
proceedings, whether or not you believe in alien abductions ...
