Made as part of the Roger Corman Challenge, where the movie
legend encouraged filmmakers to make their own quarantine films on their
cellphones during international lockdown, this movie, abstract as it is,
really captures the fears surrounding COVID-19 and the resulting
quarantine. It starts with an image that has become the "new
normal" during lockdown, a girl's face wearing a generic face mask -
but that face soon goes under in a tub full of blood, and the girl (Kade
Tabin) soon appears again drawing very disturbing portraits, the most
unsettling aspects of them soon re-appearing painted on her body. What all
this so compelling though is how all of this perfectly mirrors all the
fears and uncertainties of the early days of "the Corona",
painting a nightmarish picture the horrors of which though hide in the
images rather than being hammered home - and these images are strong
enough for sure to creep the viewer out on a subliminal level. Pretty
great work, actually.
