Seth (David Lautman) takes his girlfriend Becca (Sarah Greyson) and
their best friends Mallory (Arielle Brachfeld) and Eric (Chris Dorman) to
his mother's (Maria Olsen) place, not telling them that mum's actually
dead, that he might have killed her, and that he carries around her body
parts in a suitcase and can't wait to bury them on the premises. Now of
course, all his friends are tied up way too much in their own personal
dramas to notice anything right away - and when they do, it's already much
too late, as there is something aweful going on in Seth's mum's place, and
her appearing after her death is really just the tip of the iceberg ... Consumption
is one of these movies that keeps you guessing throughout - which is of
course its major strength, as it helps enormously in creating the film's
atmosphere of unease, and by just not spoon-feeding the audience with
facts upon facts but hides them in a cleverly structured narrative that
even dares to include scenes that contradict one another. And add to that
a properly subtle directorial effort and a strong cast, and you've got
yourself a rather awesome movie!
