Nicky, loudmouth of the group, is quick to hitch a ride with Bobby (John Behlmann) though, who's first mate on Stone's (Jeff Kober) fishing trolley. Jake, he-man of the group, thinks it's a bad idea from the get-go (and is later proven right of course), but joins the others nevertheless, partly because he wants to patch up things with Ashley, his ex. At first, the ride's all mellow, but then Bobby leads Ashley below deck for a wee, and then invites her, a recovering addict, to do some drugs and have sex with him and his girlfriend Krista (Gwyneth Bensen) - which makes Ashley somewhat uncomfortable. But real trouble starts when the boat stops, and Bobby and Stone turn out to be pirates who have made it their habit to take rich kids out onto the open waters to rob them blind. And our heroes learn how serious the situation is when they kill Carson. Then Stone and Bobby tie the others up and subject them to various sorts of physical and mental torture, and our youngsters have to realize it's a game of cat-and-mouse to the death ... <p> <p>Not totally clichée-free, <b>Dead Sound</b> nevertheless turns out to be a fun little thriller that makes really good use of its main location (the boat), and manages to tell a really tense story that will have you at the edge of your seat most of the time, as it offers a good mix of suspense, action, evil mindgames and all-out violence.
