Goot is nothing but a naked fisherman who wants nobody no harm, but
then an evil capitalist, Besto, stops by and buys Goot's skin for a mere
three Dollars - and later claims Goot's fishing rod, deriving him of his
livelyhood. But fortunately, Goot, who now goes by the name of Gutboy, has
met a skinless mermaid, Gutgirl, and she grants him a wish - and he wants
to marry Sophia, daughter of cop Kug, whom Besto has tricked into helping
him. This doesn't go quite as planned though, as Gutgirl thinks Sophia
inhabits her skin, and there is some brain switching going on and ...
well, ultimately Gutgirl grants Gutboy another wish, to have revenge on
Besto and his cronies - and lots of weirdness follows ... Basically,
Gutboy is a triplike piece of weirdness that defies all sorts of
logic - and that's exactly why it works so well: The movie really takes
one to a place where the laws of nature don't necessarily comply and goes
about it with an anything-goes attitude - which is also mirrored in the
film's puppets and its music (yes, there are song-and-dance scenes), and
its very macabre brand of humour. Now if madness is not your thing, don't
even bother, but if you're into some advanced nonsense, then you should
definitely watch this.
