Encounter Nightly: Paranormal TV show host Trent (Jeff Ronan) and camera
guy Russ (Paul Pallotta) have been called to do an interview with a
woman (Kelsey Nichole Black) who has had an alien encounter. The story
she tells is nothing out of the ordinary, really. But when her husband
Jeff (David Polgar) comes home, things take a bizarre turn ...
- Harrowing: It's World War II, and two American privates (Samuel James
Pygatt, James M. Reilly) find themselves holed in by German gunfire, and
yet manage to capture a Nazi soldier (Timothy Paul Jobe). Thing is, the
German thinks they're holed in by American gunfire, and the weird rhythm
of the gunfire soon fails to make sense. And that's before things get
really creepy ...
-
Blood Beach: With nothing better to do, young Kevin (Josiah Schneider)
befriends old fisherman Leon (Mark Lubbers) and lets him teach him the
tricks of the trade. Thing is, Kevin is a man troubled beyond his age,
and Leonn soon tips him over just enough to throw him into an abyss of
(Lovecraftean) madness ...
- Nelly: It sure isn't young mother Janet's (Alisha Spielmann) day when
she's stopped by semi-moronic officer Doles (David Johnson), who not
only wakes her baby but also desperately tries to make her invite him
over for dinner. But things go from bad to worse when both she and the
cop are kidnapped by two psychos (Paul Pallotta, David Johnson) in
Flintstones-masks ...
A very nice anthology that might differ quite a bit in approach in its
individual segments (for example,
Encounter Nightly is found footage horror, Nelly's an
outright comedy), but no matter what style, the direction is assured in
all segments, and what holds the film together is good storytelling
throughout - and a solid cast of course doesn't hurt much either to make
this a really cool genre flick.
