Leonard (Franck Raharinosy) is quite possibly the worst chef in New
York City, and that his boss Andy (Max Casella) hasn't booted him long ago
is nothing short of a miracle. Leonard of course blames it all on the shit
he's going through, after all his girlfriend has just broken up with him
because he has been cheating on her, and has even attacked and wounded him
with a knife. And yet, he's still living at her apartment as he's to picky
to find the right apartment. The girlfriend's out of town though, but her
father Dennis (Alan Ceppos) is in, a gay photographer, who brings in an
endless string of male models to photograph in the nude and seems to get
joy out of constantly clogging the toilet. But that's only the tip-off
point of Leonard's issues, as of late he has the feeling that reality is
warped, that things happen that are not supposed to, only to then have not
happened at all, while things that are supposed to happen just fail to
materialize. Also, random people, including Leonard, seem to turn into
mindless killing machines every now and again - but also, maybe not. Those
in the know blame this on Theta waves emmitted by the new-fangled Theta
boxes that are supposed to speed up the internet - but who's to say that
those in the know aren't hallucinations themselves, and Leonard isn't
actually going insane ... Now That Cold Dead Look in Your
Eyes isn't a movie that's easy to follow, as while it bounces back and
forward between arthouse, horror, science fiction, conspiracy thriller,
and straight drama, with comedic elements thrown in, it also leaves most
of its story open to interpretation, doesn't only refuse to give concrete
answers but seems to be proud of it, too. And the result is actually a
pretty fascinating puzzle, a film that only really comes together in its
audience's heads - and if it doesn't make sense to everyone, or if
different people get different things out of the movie, that seems to be
perfectly ok - and that's really part of the film's attraction, actually.
