Your upcoming movie A Grim Becoming
- in a few words, what is
it about, and what can you tell us about your character?
A Grim Becoming
is a
horror/comedy about a character named Raphael reluctantly transforming
into a grim reaper. Raphael
resists the transformation - unaware that his resistance only speeds up
the process.
My character
October is an inappropriate, self-centered, rude, obnoxious brat. Due to
her relationship to Raphael, October is in turn collateral damage. She
experiences many transformations both physically and emotionally.
How
did you portray your character, and is she someone you can personally
identify with? I approached playing the character, October, by channeling my
busy, stressful, hectic life into a powerful feeling of snotty emotion. I
actually felt a sense of internal release after venting those feelings in
this role. Although I do not
personally identify with the character October, I'm sure my mother might
say otherwise.
How did you get
involved with the project in the first place? After developing my
relationship with director Adam Steigert [Adam

during the film Ombis, I was
approached by him with the role of October which he said he had written
with me in mind. I was honored
and gladly accepted. Now that I think about it, however, the fact that
Adam thought of me as he was writing a bratty character, might not have
been a compliment! What can
you tell us about your director Adam R. Steigert [Adam

collaboration like?
Aryn with director Adam R. Steigert |
Adam is amazing. He is my
friend. Our energies have always been in sync and I have felt a connection
with him on set that is different than I have experienced on other
projects so far. He has
had complete confidence in me and my acting abilities since I first
auditioned for him 3 years ago. My favorite thing about working with Adam
is the trust he shows in me and the freedom he gives me. He allowed me to
interpret October how I felt she should be protrayed. A Grim Becoming's brand of humour - how easy was it to adapt to it, and what can
you tell us about your own sense of humour?
I loved the humor in this
film. The question isn't "How easy was it to adapt to?" but
should be: "How hard was it to not crack up during a scene?"!
My sense of humor absolutely matches the style of comedy in A Grim Becoming. Mike "Scabascooby" (Magoo) and Brandyn
Williams (Raphael) [Brandyn

Do
talk about the actual shoot and the on-set atmosphere for a bit!
Shooting was definitely a learning experience for me. I had the
opportunity to grow as an actress and becoming October was a blast, but it
wasn't all fun and games. I
had to get accustomed to 16 hour shoots in full prosthetics.
It was hot, itchy and sticky. I tried, but I will be the first to
admit that a little bit of my own inner October may have shown itself once
or twice. Working with veteran
horror actors such as Melantha Blackthorne [Melantha
Blackthorne interview - click here], Bill Oberst Jr. [Bill

Pinn [Devanny Pinn interview -

particularly loved spending time with Devanny.
She took it upon herself to advise me and her help and mentoring
was awesome. I will treasure my memories of working on the set of A Grim Becoming. Always.
Any
future projects beyond A Grim Becoming
you'd like to talk about?
I currently have a few projects that are coming up between now
and spring. Just when I think
my schedule can't get any busier, I seem to add five more things!
I love working with Deftone
Pictures Studios, and as far as projects for Deftone, you would have to
ask Adam.
Well, Adam?
Do I have any projects coming up? There may be a few rumors out
there... stay tuned to find out!
What got you into acting in the first place, and did you
take any acting classes or the like?
I started acting in the
fourth grade in a school play. I
have been in every school musical since then and then some.
So I guess that's what started it for me, although it seems like I
have tried to get involved in anything that catches my eye, from singing
or dancing to voice overs and opera. I
recently even modeled this month for Buffalo Fashion Week under two local
designers. I go to school full-time and I am on the cheer squad, I haven't
been able to take additional acting classes
separate from Drama at school due to my full schedule. I am
planning to make Dramatic Arts my major so I am sure I will be diving into
those soon. My first film was
The Final Night and Day, directed by Adam Steigert and I was an extra.
I can still do a pretty good zombie girl! Do you still
remember your first time in front of a movie camera, and what was that
experience like?
My first experience on camera was in the middle of a field full
of other zombie extras. I was
wearing a sun-dress and a tiara. I
was covered in fake blood. I
was so excited that one of the principal actors jumped over me after I was
"DEAD", I thought I was certain to be in that scene but, the
shot was cut :( Although my
debut scene on film was cut, you can see my elbow once or twice if you
look closely, ahaha.
I knew that day that this is
what I was meant to do. What can you tell us about your
filmwork prior to A Grim Becoming? Except for what will surely
become the "Famous Elbow Scene" in Final Night and Day, the only
previous feature film I have done was in Ombis,
a Deftone Studios production. I played Haley - a
precocious little girl from a small town invaded by Aliens.
I have done a few other projects as an extra but Haley was my first
real character for me to explore.
How would you describe yourself as
an actress? Always growing. I see
myself as a developing actress. I
haven't even come close to my full potential (if that's even possible).
I am grateful that I have been given the opportunity to act and I
am thankful for the support I have received from
my friends, family, but mostly my mom. My mom is amazing!
Without her I would never have accomplished all that I have and I
can't imagine doing this without her. Actresses
(or indeed actors) who inspire you? Leah Michelle Inspires me.
She is such an accomplished, well rounded performer and I see
myself pursuing a similar career. I
want to do it all!!! Your favourite/least favourite movies?
I really don't keep a mental
list of specific movies that I like or dislike. Your
website, Facebook, whatever else?

Anything else you are
dying to mention and I have merely forgotten to ask? No, I don't think
so... but
I'd just like to thank all the wonderful people involved in Deftone
Pictures Studios. They have welcomed my mom and me into their crazy world
of movie making and I love them. They have truly become a second family to
me. They have made it possible
for me to live my dream, work at my craft and be able to be recognized for
my work, which has given me the chance and ability to do interviews like
this. Thanks
for the interview!
Thank you for your time
Mike, it was a pleasure.
