Your upcoming movie Lamb Feed - in a few words, what's it going to
be about?
Have you seen The Notebook? Just
kidding.
Lamb Feed is about an arrogant
businessman (played wonderfully by Luke Church) that gets stranded in a
small town during its annual celebration. He turns to the town’s people
for help when all else fails and finds out that the celebration has a much
darker side to it.
Well
looks can definitely be deceiving. At first glance Lamb Feed looks to be your
average psycho, killer hillbilly family flick à la Texas
Chainsaw Massacre or House
of 1,000 Corpses. It’s not. There
is a bit of a supernatural element mixed in with undertones of
spirituality and of course some psycho hillbilly family killing. I’m
sure it will strike a chord with some people and I wouldn’t have it any
other way=D
What were your inspirations when writing Lamb Feed?
To tell you the truth I didn’t gain inspiration through
horror films that I adore. I gained inspiration through the simple fact that
my small hometown actually has a traditional "Lamb Feed". Now mind you it
doesn’t go to the extremes that my movie does, but my material is loosely
based on a real life setting.
What can you tell us about the film's look and feel?
Since writing this based on my own hometown’s
tradition, I felt it was important to be as authentic to the story as
possible so we shot on location at the Portuguese Hall in Kerman CA. The
actual hall where the real life tradition takes place. Now for the actual
look, I am big on having lighting help tell the story as far as moods and
reactions so you will see different colors implying the mood for each
particular scene and at times it may feel dream-like or surreal.
So enjoy the ride!
Do
talk about Lamb Feed's approach to horror for a bit (as in
atmosphere vs all-out gore, suspense vs sudden shocks and the like)?
Well
I at first I wanted Lamb Feed to be a complete narrative short by telling the
story with images of seduction and gore, but I switched gears as I started
pulling great acting talent onboard. As talent gravitated to the project
it was back to the drawing board for character development and rich
dialogue. So in short I feel we have an even balance and perfect mixture
of interesting characters and shocking moments tied in with elements
related to common phobias. Since
your last movie Night
of the Sea Monkey did feature quite a bit of comedy - will there
be any funny bits in Lamb Feed, and if yes, how does its humour
compare to that of the earlier movie? I
really can’t help bringing some humor to my projects; it’s just my
writing style. So yes there will be a bit of humor, but prepare for it to
be a bit darker this time around. You have been warned!
Lamb Feed
marks cult actor Arch Hall's [Arch
Hall bio - click here, interview -
click here] return to the screen after five decades -
why him, and how did you get him even?
I had been a fan of Arch Hall Jr.
for awhile and I actually wanted him for a bit part in Night
of the Sea Monkey, but at
the time I was super tight with budget and didn’t even know if he would
do it due to his long departure from the industry so I never bothered
contacting him about it. As time went on I often asked myself what if? So
in early Feb when I completed the first draft of the script I approached
him about playing Rev Wicker the vicious leader of the Wicker clan.
Arch read the first draft and although he liked certain elements he
was unsure. I had him watch Night
of the Sea Monkey just to show him the potential of
the next project and he was still unsure, so I let it go. I had to move
along with the casting process so I hired on Robert Mukes (House
of 1,000 Corpses) and new comer Michael Wainwright [Michael
Wainwright interview - click here] to play Rev. I must tell you
Wainwright gives a powerhouse performance. Getting back to Arch… I get an
email after Rev has been cast from Arch wanting in on Lamb Feed. Arch while on
vacation became intrigued with stories of people eating human gallbladders
for rejuvenation and there you have it. So I was stuck in a hard place
being that I was completely sold on Wainwright, but wanted badly to work
with Hall! You guessed it! It was back once again to the drawing board for
character and dialogue development. “Things happen for a reason” Arch
noted to me in a conversation and I am glad they did. Arch and I developed
the patriarch of the clan SGT Eldon Wicker.
Arch and I had lots of fun creating
this persona and have become good friends in the process.
Arch you’re a class act all the way=)
What can you tell
us about the rest of your cast, and why exactly these people? This
cast is fucking awesome! Let’s start with Robert Mukes who has become
like family to me. When Robert and I started talking about this project I
knew it was perfect for him and that he could really bring it with his
acting ability and sheer physical size! Luke Church was brought to my
attention by my 1st AD Jennifer Nicole Downey who set up a
meeting. I had no demo reel or headshots to go off of, just a meeting and
a handshake. Let me tell you he came everyday to set with his A game and I
can’t wait for the audience to see it! Meghan Chadeayne is a
model/actress that is FB friends with me and I really wanted to work with
her. We made it happen and she rocked! Michael Wainwright [Michael
Wainwright interview - click here] - all I can say
is “Fucking Brilliant”, nuff said. Tyler Gallant such a gifted actor
and a star on the rise. Please check him out in Night
of the Sea Monkey as well.
Melanie Robel [Melanie Robel interview
- click here] and I have been absolutely dying to work together and the
time is here and now! I love her to death. Kaci Hansen came on as a
walk-on extra and brought much more! Scott Geiter my brother will open up
with some narration that will also kick some ass! What else can I say
besides all the extras kicked ass on this project as well.
“Cheers”

Do
talk about the shoot as such for a bit, and the on-set atmosphere? The
on-set atmosphere besides the few bumps in the road (which all productions
have… big or small) was beautiful. Everyone was dedicated to making this
project shine and went 100%. I am very proud of every single person who
was a part of this. Any
idea when and where the film might be released onto the general public
yet? I
am looking for Lamb Feed to be released in early to late fall, limited of course to
film festivals across the nation and who knows? Perhaps overseas as well.
Please be on the lookout for it to hit a festival in your area in
2014-2015. Any future projects beyond Lamb Feed?
Right
away I will begin work on another horror short titled Terror at Station 13
featuring Bobby Rhodes of Demons 1
& 2. I will also have my turn in
front of the camera for the full feature documentary brought to you by
film maker Johnny Daggers titled Blood on the Reel. Your/your
movie's website, Facebook, whatever else?

Anything else
you are dying to mention and I have merely forgotten to ask? Thanks
so much to my family for believing in me and the cast and crew as well.
The crew consists of Jennifer Nicole Downey, David Bailey, Grace Ortiz,
Courtnee Hulsey, Kub Vaaj, Ge, Lee, Luis Obregon, Michael Burciaga,
Brandon Hickey, Ricardo Vasquez, Josh, the Walker bros and the list
continues!!! I have to get off
stage the music is playing! Thanks with much love and respect=D Thanks
for the interview!
