Your new movie All American Bikini Car Wash - in a few words, what is it about, and what can you tell us about your character in it?

All American Bikini Car Wash is about Jack’s journey to pass his business class by running a car wash for a week. There’s just one catch. He has to make a profit. It seems like an insurmountable task, until his friend Vex comes up with the idea to turn it into a bikini car wash. Needless to say, it turns into quite a tumultuous journey. My character is Brittany, Jack’s friend and confidant. Brittany is not exactly the car wash’s biggest cheerleader, but she looks out for Jack and has his best interest at heart.

What did you draw upon to bring your character to life, and how much of you can we find in her, actually?

I think that Brittany and I were one from the moment I first read the script. I was fortunate enough to understand the character of Brittany immediately due to our similarities in nature. Brittany is calm, logical and analytical. She thinks about consequences of certain behaviors, but is also a playful, loyal and fun friend to Jack and the others.

Your first thoughts when you heard the title "All American Bikini Car Wash"?

Well, we had already finished shooting the film by the time I found out what the official title was going to be, so it fit perfectly in my mind.

For the most part, your role in All American Bikini Car Wash requires you to wear very little - was that at all a problem for you?

The shoot was during summer, so I was thrilled to wear shorts, skirts and tanks throughout the film. Brittany never ends up in a bikini, though. Maybe in the sequel!

Do talk about the shoot as such, and the on-set atmosphere?

The on-set atmosphere was incredible. I can honestly say that this was one of the most fun sets I’ve ever worked on. We all had a blast shooting in Vegas, and the talented people I had the pleasure of working with made it that much more amazing.

Any future projects you'd like to share?

Yes. I just finished filming Rogue Warrior: Robot Fighter, a sci-fi feature film that will be released in early 2016, produced by Tracey Birdsall [Tracey Birdsall interview - click here] and directed by Neil Johnson [Neil Johnson interview - click here]. My character is Rhianna, a fearless warrior with strong survival instincts. I also just completed Day For Night, a film noir feature film directed by Michael Chrisoulakis, which has garnered a lot of publicity this year due to an incredible script by Guy Jackson. I am gearing up to shoot Trapdoor, a female-focused thriller in the vein of movies like the Descent. It's a desert sci-fi that blends the excitement of action sports with the horror of a creature film. My character is Kat, a curious, fearless and thrill-seeking individual with an aptitude for speaking her mind. I'm also preparing to join the cast of the supernatural web series Last Life for season two as Nari, a character I'm also very excited to take on.

What got you into acting in the first place, and did you receive any formal training on the subject?

Ashley behind the scenes at All American Bikini Car Wash

I’ve wanted to be an actress since I was a little girl, but I fell into the world of sports at a young age, becoming a high-level competitive athlete for many years. Training took a lot of time, and was my top priority. Once my athletic career came to an end, I immediately turned to acting. I found that I loved it even more than I had anticipated. My only regret is that I didn’t start sooner. Yes, I have formal training from many wonderful teachers in the LA area.

How would you describe yourself as an actress, and some of your techniques to bring your characters to life?

I look for truth above all else. I am very analytical, so digging into a script in search of all the clues that inspire a character is something I truly enjoy. Artistically, I draw inspiration from scripts, books, movies, TV shows, people I admire, and of course, my own imagination. I'll admit that I'm a bit of a dreamer. In many ways, I think I draw inspiration from challenges.

Actresses (and indeed actors) who inspire you?

I would say that Tatiana Maslany is probably the actress who inspires me most. Her ability to portray so many characters in such a truthful way on the series Orphan Black is incredible.

I tend to prefer TV shows, simply because I love getting to grow with the characters throughout a season and over the course of a series. Some of my favorite shows are: The Killing, Orphan Black, Continuum, House of Cards, True Blood, Big Bang Theory and Game of Thrones. But I’d have to say that any Disney movie or rom-com always makes me a happy girl.
