Your new movie Infected
- in a few words, what is it about?
Infected
is a short story about a woman called Rebecca who wakes up in the middle of
nowhere with little memory and covered in blood. It’s a story about her
journey and trying to remember & understand what has happened and where
she is.
Why a zombie film, is that a genre dear to you, and some of your genre
favourites?
I love
horror in general so this was aimed more at the woman' view point then the infected people's to give a more emotional feel to the film. I do all kinds of
horror so in the future, you will see a lot of different directions as Silent
Studios Productions grows.
With zombie movies beind a dime a dozen of late, what do you think
makes Infected stick
out of the crowd? Infected
is different as it’s not a zombie film per se but about a woman
abandoned and her trip through what seems an apocalyptic world, and Rosie
Pearson as lead female is outstanding and her performance to bring that
to the screen. So more like 28 Days
Later.
What can you tell us about Infected's
screenwriter Jeremy Hill, and what was your collaboration with him like? Jeremy
Hill is a genius, and we have many conversations and meetings about current
and future projects. He is the like the rest of the team that all have
their own skill set, and they are what make Silent
Studios Productions.
Since
zombie movies demand quite a bit of gore almost by definition, and there
are quite a few gorehounds among my readership, you just have to talk
about your movie's bloody bits for a bit! Infected
does have some gory bits and we are hoping to have more and more gore on
the screen moving forward. Also a good SFX team in your production crew is
always key and we been blessed to work with some very talented people over
the years. What
can you tell us about your key cast, and why exactly these people? Darren
Kent worked well together on Infected
and we have a great casting team, so
when looking at who to cast we sit down and go through the characters and
who we think would fit that profile, and Rosie Pearson and Darren both did that
well J Do
talk about the shoot as such, and the on-set atmosphere?
Shooting
on set is always a great experience and I find we always have a great crew
and work well together. Great to have a good 1st AD and mine is
Kirsty Richardson who keeps everything on track. It is very important to
have a great crew that all work together and I believe we now have that,
and we are very excited about the NEW films we have planned for 2016 and
2017. Anything
you can tell us about audience and critical reception of your movie yet? Infected
has had some great reviews and we are happy that it has been selected for
quite a few festivals this year. So we are hoping that continues and more
people get to see it in 2015. Any
future projects you'd like to share?

We
have just finished a short film called Extinction which is a segment for
the feature Virus of the Dead. So we are excited to see that released, and
again the team worked very hard to get this short film completed. Also we
are working on another special project this month so once that is
completed we will releasing details on that soon. Plus we restart filming
our first feature film Torture, so that is going to be a great film and
already shaping up to be a gory horror for the fans
J
What can you tell us about your filmwork
prior to Infected? Before
Infected I had already done a few things including
Demon Mist, which has
been picked up by the feature World of Death, and my first commercial I
directed was Resident Evil 6 for the UK launch to name a few
J
How
would you describe yourself as a director? As
a director you must have a clear vision on what the film should look like
when guiding the actors, cameras, lighting, etc, and coming from a camera
background it is easy for me to work out the angles and lighting with the
camera team and then focus on the actors which I really enjoy as you see
your film coming to life. I would say I am approachable on set and try to
get along with everyone.
Filmmakers
who inspire you?
I am inspired by some of the greats like Eli Roth, Quentin Tarantino and more
recent Tom Six. Also a mention about the Soskas [Soska
Sisters interview - click here] as they have a great
story that should inspire any indie horror filmmakers all around the
world. Your favourite movies? Hostel,
Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn of the
Dead, Hellraiser to name a few.
