Your new movie
Mauler - in a few words, what's it about, and what can you tell us
about your character in it?
Mauler is about a group of five friends who think they’re gonna hit a big,
quick play for money which ends up turning into a fight for their lives,
and my character Adam is the lovable ditso with a heart of gold who’s
always trying to look optimistically to everything occurring.
What did you draw upon to bring your character to life, and
how much Jayden Stith can we find in Adam? He gave off extreme yellow lab vibes, and I guess I naturally exude that
energy. I find myself being mildly clueless in most situations but I’ll do
anything for the loved homies. How did
you get involved with the project in the first place, what drew you to it?
I’ve always wanted to do a slasher movie, and after reading the synopsis
for the film, it felt like it was refreshing old school style slasher
chase-them-down type film which I grew up on so I definitely wanted a hand
in it. With Mauler
being a slasher movie, is that a genre at all dear to you? And to what
extent could you identify with
Mauler's take on slasher cinema?
I’ve been a horror movie fan since I was a kid, and what I love most about
slashers are the levity between comedy and horror that it plays a fine
line between. I feel
Mauler does a great job tracking everyone's development
and story, and you get a feel for the rational feelings of each character
while also having moments of human in between.
What can you tell us about Mauler's
director Terence Bernie Hines, and what was your collaboration like?
It was really cool, Terence always checked in with us to see where our
headspace was and brought an actors' coach perspective where he was trying
to draw as much of our personhood into the character as possible. A few words about the shoot as such, and the on-set
atmosphere? The on-set atmosphere was dope, it was a lot of late nights so you kinda
just get acclimated with everyone there. You snack and yap with each other
daily and everyone was so incredibly fun to be around. Any future projects you'd like to
share? I’m currently in a film called
The Sound of Balloons 2 that just got selected
for the Marina del Rey Movie Festival.
What got you into acting in the first place,
and did you receive any formal education on the subject?
I originally got into acting because I was on the verge of being a
benchwarmer for the Varsity football team and I wanted to do something
active after school in 10th grade, so I signed up for drama club and the
rest is history. I went from high school drama to musical theatre
through the Hurrah Players Company and then later graduated from
AMDA with a degree in fine arts.
What can you tell us about your filmwork prior to
Mauler?
I have done one other movie called Your
½ of the Rent, and besides that I’ve
been mostly in the commercial sphere.
How would you describe yourself as an actor, and some of
your techniques to bring your characters to life?
I’m very interested in improv so the idea of in the moment type of feels
is what I personally enjoy and I feel like that’s just a reflection of who
we are as creatures just reacting to the world around us for real so
that’s my personal technique, I guess just improv-ing and reacting honestly
to the vibes in the circumstance.
Your favourite movies? All honesty I watched Uma Thurman in
Kill Bill as a kid and I wanted to be
her so bad, and that branched off to watching people like Lakieth Stanfield
and Micheal Cera. ... and of course, films you
really deplore?

I wouldn’t even say it’s a movie but just so I can cram it in there:
The Hamilton the musical
Disney recording. I wouldn’t even say
Hamilton is objectively bad I just can’t do it twin.
Your website, social media,
whatever else? My socials are Chipskylarkisdead for all the main stuff, Instagram,
YouTube etc. Anything else you're dying to
mention and I have merely forgotten to ask? I want to
give a personal shout out to my favorite musician Björk for keeping me up
during those late night shoots returning home. Thanks
for the interview!
