Your new webseries Brainless Agenda - in a few words, what is it about?

Brainless Agenda is a short form digital, animated, one-minute, sketch comedy show. Every episode features a different brand of ignorance easily recognized today. Each character is uncomfortably relatable to a different demographic, and if you’re as heavily entwined in social media as the millennial generation, you will resonate with all of them.

What were your sources of inspiration when creating Brainless Agenda?

Ridiculous people have always existed, but their broadcasting platform has become so much wider since the invention of the internet and reality TV. Sometimes people just need to be called out.

Do talk about Brainless Agenda's brand of humour for a bit!

If directly quoting people is a brand, then I guess that’s it? Seinfeld did a similar thing, but obviously much more tame. Most of the time I am just quoting actual experiences I have had with people This brand is just calling out insanity and not ignoring it. Looking at it head on and saying… “no actually, that is really weird that you think that or say those things and we need to examine it so that you can hear what you sound like.”

In Brainless Agenda you play a different character each episode - so how much preparation goes into each character, and do you already have a full vision of what the character might sound when you write them or does this come only later?

So much preparation. First comes the inspiration from something dumb I notice. Then I let my brain do whatever it wants for a few days, compiling jokes and images and character development. When I feel ready I draft a script. After that I’ll sketch a character. From there I’ll record and then I’ll work with my animator to put it all together. The whole process can take anywhere from a week to a month per episode.

You of course also have to talk about the animation in your series, and how is it achieved?

I do all of the illustrations and work with an animator to bring them to life. I love this style. It’s so weird and silly. I cannot animate but using this style of animation allows me to illustrate each character exactly the way I want them to look, which is really important to me.

What's a recording session for Brainless Agenda usually like?

Me laughing at myself for an hour.

The $64-question, where can Brainless Agenda be seen?

@BrainlessAgenda on Instagram! It is also on YouTube, but meh.

What can you tell us about audience and critical reception of Brainless Agenda?

It is totally awesome when a bigger account reposts one of my episodes. It’s also awesome when anyone comments and says I made them laugh. Wha’s better than that? My parody of Old Greg was adored by The Mighty Boosh (the originators of that famous sketch) and my Bitcoin episode got a laugh from the actual Winklevoss twins. Two of my episodes have gotten into a few film festivals, which is also cool.

Thanks for the interview!
