Your new movie Nigel
- in a few words, what's it about?
It's about a lad who wants to find love and instead meets a whole bunch of nutters
What did you draw upon to bring your character to life, and how much Mackenzie Vee Crompton can we
find in Amaris? Ha ha! So director Paul Sutton [Paul Sutton interview -
click here] said to me that he wasn't
going to give me any lines and to just go mental. So I called upon my
scare acting past and thought about the fact I run a ghost walk in York
and that if I combine the two it will create a perfect gothic nutter. As
for whether Amaris and I are the same... take me on a date and find out! How did you get involved with the
project in the first place, what drew you to it? I had
worked with Paul in the past on murder mystery events and enjoyed his last
film so requested to be a part of any future projects - and
Nigel came up. To
what extent could you identify with
Nigel's approach to humour?
Oh it's straight up my alley. And having entered the world of online
dating myself in the past, that mixture of seriousness combined with the
ridiculous truly isn't far from the truth!
What can you tell us about
Nigel's director Paul
Sutton, and what was your collaboration like?
I could be very mean here and make him twitch... ha ha. No I'm joking.
Paul is a genuine nice guy, quick witted, down to earth. Not quite normal,
we won't go that far. But honestly I love working with him. Would happily
cohabitate again... sorry collaborate!
Do talk about the shoot as such, and the on-set atmosphere!
Great fun. The cast and crew were fun and professional. The day went
quickly and I felt at ease. It was such fun to play a wild
character and watch others be whacky as well. Trying to keep a straight
face was difficult. Wonderful atmosphere.
Any future projects you'd like to share? Currently about to perform in
An Evening of Ghost Stories created by myself in York at a little room at the back of
an anything spooky
shop called Coven of Curiosities and also running my ghost walk
Shadows of York. What got you into acting in the first place, and did you receive
any formal training on the subject?
I knew from being a child I wanted to be an actress. I taught myself
by practicing in front of a mirror growing up. Then joined amateur
dramatic societies before going on to do one to one training and also
youth theatre at the York Theatre Royal. I since then found work on my
own and through word of mouth and grown my credits over the years.
I've performed in countless plays and pantomimes. I love it.
What can you tell us about your filmwork prior to
Nigel? So I
had done several short films that sadly were never completed. But
officially I I had done Weightless and a
Doctor Who
radio fan series which you can see via my IMDb. I was also an old woman in
a straight to DVD amatuer film version of
Dick Turpin.
How would you describe yourself as an actress, and some of your
techniques to bring your characters to life?
Life experience plays a huge part in my ability but also using my
empathy and intuition on how I would feel or be if I really was the
character I am portraying. I suppose a little method acting. But
ultimately I listen to my director. However Paul just said to be
myself... so I was slightly, ha ha! Only slightly!!!
Actresses (and indeed actors) who inspire you? Countless! Alan Rickman, Joan Collins, Peter Cushing, Meryl Streep,
Lana Parillia, John Cleese, Mark Hamill and David Tennant. Honestly
there is more. I love learning how others work.
Your favourite movies? Oh gosh,
erm... the original Star Wars films,
Harry Potter films,
Hammer horror films and
The Devil Wears Prada. ... and of course, films you really deplore?

I cannot stick things like Zombieland and anything like
Big Bang
Theory... I may be a hated person right now but they really aren't great for me. Your website, social media,
whatever else? Search "Mackenzie Vee Crompton" and it will
bring up all my socials, IMDb. Also look up "Shadows of York. Again", this
will bring up my website to the ghost walk and its socials. I also had a
bash at singing. The levels are off but look up "Scare Queen - This Year
is Ours" on YouTube and you will find my alternative music. Anything else you're dying to
mention and I have merely forgotten to ask? No I'm good... I think. I don't know. Oh dear. Ha ha!
Thanks for the interview! Thank you! |
