Your new movie Human Hibachi 3: The Last Supper - in a few words, what's it about?

Human Hibachi 3: The Last Supper is about a cult leader of a religious group who is indebted to Jin. He uses his platform to brainwash his followers and create a video for Jin.

To what extent is Human Hibachi 3: The Last Supper tied to the previous Human Hibachi films - other than being about cannibalism of course? And what do you think sets the new movie apart from your earlier efforts?

It’s tied in to the other Human Hibachi films with the fact that Jin is orchestrating everything. He needs one final video and uses this man Russell (played by TJ Wren) to deliver that for him. I think the dark religious tones in this film separate it from the other entries. It brings a whole different element to it.

(Other) sources of inspiration when writing Human Hibachi 3: The Last Supper - and given the theme of the movie, have you done any acutal research into end-of-the-world cults?

I think one of the main inspirations for this film was when I was really getting into the Jim Jones thing. He brainwashed all of his followers to drink the potion, promising them heaven. I thought it was super interesting and creepy that he had that sort of control over people.

Human Hibachi 3: The Last Supper doesn't exactly hold back when it comes to blood and guts - so what can you tell us about the gore effects in your film, and in regards to violence, is there any red line you refuse to cross?

Yeah so the gore and effects is all done by myself, wife and others who I bring in to do them. In this case it was my wife Charmaine, Kristine Doe and her partner Jason Potter. I like to really do everything in camera, nothing in post production. I love the visceral look of meat, blood and guts. As far as a red line I would never cross, I would never harm an animal in my movies.

What can you tell us about your movie's approach to horror?

The film's approach to horror is to push boundaries and go to places many directors won’t go to. I believe that is what separates these movies from the pack.

Do talk about Human Hibachi 3: The Last Supper's cast, and why exactly these people?

The cast of Human Hibachi 3: The Last Supper was amazing. We had Jeff Alpert return for a third time as Doug Patrick, Stafford Chavis return as Bobby Shields, Wataru Nishida return as Jin Yamamoto for a fourth time and Zachary Chung Pun return for a third time as Aikio. Working with them has been a pleasure and they are very talented.

TJ Wren who played Russell the cult leader did a phenomenal job. That role wasn’t an easy one to play and he really took the bull by the horns and did great.

I added cult horror icon and scream queen Debbie Rochon [Debbie Rochon interview - click here] to play Aunt Maureen, and it was such a pleasure working with her. She’s great. Lloyd Kaufman played Uncle Lloyd, and it was an amazing experience directing him at Troma Studios.

To round out the cast, Ilene Sullivan, Lisa Tobias, Richard Sexton, Dan Gregory, Jay Palmieri jr, Tara Beavers, Dallas Cheeseman, Richard Kern, Elizabeth D’Ambrosio, Francesca Viola, Kelly Marks, Illsun4K, Farod Thomas, Scott Wambold, Shodome Allen, Liam McIntyre and Christi Reilly all played great in their respective roles! Such a talented group. I had the chance to play a really cool role with Anthony Calvitti, the scene where the woman (Christi Reilly)  is broken down. That was super fun.

What can you tell us about the shoot as such, and the on-set atmosphere?
