Your upcoming movie Slasher House 2 - in a few words, what is it about?

Slasher House 2 is the follow up to our first Mycho Universe feature that we shot in 2010. Since then we've made a handful of spin offs based on the characters that appeared in that film, but Slasher House is Red's story and we wanted to take the character deeper into the world we glimpsed in the first film.

The film follows Red on her quest for revenge to find the Serial Slasher who murdered her parents and forced her to kill her own sister. This time we see her in a world that she's much more comfortable in, or at least she would be was she not in constant danger of being chopped to pieces.

The film's main plot involves a sinister military group known only as 'Hexagon' snatching serial killers and Red finds herself landing slap bang in the middle of their plans. However, she soon finds that the mastermind behind it all is much closer to home than she ever could have thought as she finds herself uncovering the deadly secrets behind what the Slasher House really is.

Will Slasher House 2 be a direct sequel to the original Slasher House, and to what extent will the events in the earlier movie affect the events in this one?

Without spoiling too much, we get to jump deeper into Red as we saw her at the end of Slasher House, as a cold hearted, quick witted slasher hunter, and we visit some very familiar places from the first film as well as filling in a whole bunch of gaps that were left open when the first film ended.

Slasher House 2 is directly connected to the events of the first film and almost all of the characters from the original will return in one form or another, but if Slasher House was Arkham Asylum, this Arkham City. We're stepping out into the bigger world that surrounds the Slasher House instead of seeing it from the inside.

The biggest carry over is the reveal of who is behind the Slasher House and how it connects to Red.

The original Slasher House as well as your Legacy of Thorn were known to bend the slasher formula quite a bit to rather unexpected results - can we expect anything of the sort with Slasher House 2?

For definite, but in a very different way. The tough thing about doing a sequel to a film that kind of turns the tropes of a genre upside down is that when you come to following it up, you have to flip that back around, only without making it the same as it was before you started in the first place.

So we decided early on that this would take that kind of film to a genre that we hadn't seen it in before. For a start, we decided to up the action ante about 100x and then took it into almost a direction of modern spy movies like The Bourne Series and recent Bonds, but with elements of the Saw series and of course we really draw on slasher history to bring in some new but of course familiar characters.

Besides Red of course, will Slasher House 2 feature any characters already established in the Mycho Universe - and anything you can tell us about the killers in your movie yet?

There are certainly returning characters from the larger universe, and the beauty of the Slasher House movies is that we can do that, we can make much larger references to the other characters than we can in our smaller solo movies and that's a big part of the fun here. Every character from the first film is at least referenced and of course some make much larger appearances. One in particular.

The new killers were a tough time to come up with, because we really didn't want to repeat the same things we did last time. Big silent guy, possessed guy, clown, etc, we did that last time and so the real challenge was using the same archetypes but doing something completely different with them. I can't reveal too much about them as they are being unlocked during the progress of the IndieGoGo campaign.

The most important thing for us every time is that these killers work for the story, so they're not just there, but they are an important part of the plot and how it moves forward. We spent about a year swapping one character out over and over again until the story worked, but the end result is a well rounded new line up of unique and hopefully future classic horror villains.

What can you tell us about your movie's approach to the horror genre, and how far do you intend to go in terms of violence and gore?

We're always looking to do something different, not just for the audience, but for ourselves, but we never want that to feel unauthentic and so it's important to us that our films still sit in the horror themes that people know and love, so what we wanted to do this time was add something to the formula, looking at the horror movie through an action/spy thriller.

Last time our hands were a little tied in terms of gore and violence as our film consisted of one girl and four killers and so the amount of kills we could have were limited to say the least. That was a huge concern when coming into this and so to contrast that we kill about a dozen people in the first 10 minutes and that is just the warm up.

We really wanted to push the boat out with the inventiveness of the kills as well and a couple in particular were so shocking that they raised a few eyebrows with even the guys here, so I knew we had to keep them ;)

A few words about your movie's overall intended look and feel?

One of my biggest regrets with the first film was that we were only just starting out and as a result a lot of the look of the film had to be done in post, although that seemed to gel with fans of the first film. However, I really wanted to get the look of the film to a place that feels much more in keeping with the way we do things now, 5 years later.

I've spent the last 3 years developing a style that allows us to maintain the look and feel of the first film, whilst improving that and giving it more depth. That's a tall order, but I know fans will really love the results.

Anything you can tell us about your cast yet, and why exactly these people?

Casting for our films is probably the hardest part, we always want the right people, but low budget filmmaking isn't for everyone and you don't want to find that out on set, so we spend a long time talking with potential cast to find the right people for the part.

We went through literally a dozen actresses for the new Red, after Eleanor James (the original Red) quit acting a couple of years ago, we knew we were going to be in for a tough time replacing her and out of everyone we looked at no one really had what we wanted in the character. It was only by a chance meeting with an actor/writer friend of ours that we found Francesca Louise White [Francesca Louise White interview - click here] - she was the absolute embodiment of the character and we hardly got through our first meeting with her before offering her the role.

There are two new characters joining the film too, Amber and Luse, we found two amazing actresses to bring them to life and I couldn't be happier with the choices we've made. I can't say much at the minute as they haven't been officially announced, but they are great additions to the cast and I think people will really dig their characters a lot.

Our killers are little tougher to talk about, but at least 2 of them are returning Mycho performers who've appeared briefly in our other films and we were desperate to work with them again on something, but that will be revealed as the campaign unfolds.

As far as I know, you're currently in the process of raising funds for Slasher House 2 - so what can you tell us about your fundraising campaign?

It's the curse of the indie filmmaker really, we have all these ideas and never enough funds to pull them all together. We pulled up as much of our money as we could, but we were still short. So after having a meeting about it, we decided to give crowdfunding another blast. It's pretty stressful going, but the big upside is that you engage with audience on much, much deeper level.

The campaign is to raise the £3000 we need to cover props, locations and post and we really wanted to do something a bit more interesting than just say "this is how much we need, this is what you get". So we introduced unlockable characters throughout the campaign. With every milestone we hit, we release another one of the film's new slasher villains, it just makes the whole process a bit more fun for us and everyone involved.

We have 2 stretch goals included too, if we're lucky enough to hit our goal, we have two extra films prepped to start on on the back of Slasher House 2. Namely the Legacy of Thorn prequel, Mask of Thorn, a 1980s shot on video style nasty that looks at Thorn's origins and a brand new original movie that is kind of Suspiria meets Demons. But of course our main goal until then is just hitting our original £3000.

Once your budget's in place, what's the schedule - and even if it might be waaay too early to ask, any idea when and where the film might be released onto the general public yet?

We're producing it now in hopes of having an October 2016 release, that could change depending on distribution and, of course, how the campaign goes. But we're hoping it will land as our autumn release of next year.

Will there ever be a Slasher House 3 (however tentatively) - and any (other) future projects you'd like to share?

In short, yes. Most likely anyway. Slasher House 2 was originally a much bigger script and it wasn't long before I realised that it was two separate films. I took the elements from the first half and used them to plot out this script and there is a script in progress for the 3rd and final part in the 'trilogy' so to speak.

I'm not sure when we'll start shooting yet as our plan first off, is to take Thorn and Cleaver for sequels and possibly some spin offs from our new Slasher House 2 killers. Then we'll most likely come back to Slasher House 3 for a brand new line up and a big finale to the story.
