Your new movie Horrortales.666 Part 2 - in a few words, what is it about?

The Burglar (Joel D. Wynkoop [Joel D. Wynkoop interview - click here]) from the original returns to tell more tales of horror. This time though he is being tormented by the devil (Jaysen Buterin [Jaysen P. Buterin interview - click here]). The burglars is in a hell-like situation paying for misdeeds in life so to say.

The original Horrortales.666 hails from 2003 - so why did you decide to do a sequel only now? And in what (if any) way are the two films connected?

My producing partner Dustin Hubbard [Dustin Hubbard interview - click here] brought it up to me. He was a fan of the original. He was also a big fan of Julie Strain who was in the original. He wanted to pay tribute to her. I had mentioned a few years ago wanting to shoot a sequel. But when the pandemic hit things slowed down. But back late last year we felt the time was right to bring back the series.

The movies are connected and it's a true sequel not just in title. Joel returns as the Burglar trapped in this hell. Forced to read these stories with no way out. Joel has a much bigger part which almost turns into another story. Joel’s perfect timing and gift of improvising is shown here and works fantastically.

Do talk about Horrortales.666 Part 2's overall approach to horror?

This movie explores the real life horror unraveling while the host is forced to almost live what he is reading. It becomes a reality and is slowly turning him crazy and unfocused on what is reality and what is story. He now lives in a living hell.

What can you tell us about your own segment of Horrortales.666 Part 2, and what were your inspirations when writing it?

My segment is called My World. Originally it was being done because we wanted to make sure we had enough stories and the movie was long enough. It was a fun way also to reunite with many friends in the business. But then it grew with how many people I reached out and wanted to be part of it. There are old favorites and new favorites. Not just my friends but also everyone in that segment is well-liked in the industry. It’s a fun all-star indie film line-up.

A few words about your directorial approach to your story at hand, and about the shoot as such?

Since Covid-19 it’s hard to get together an make movies. This segment is a tribute to these people who keep creating to entertain and make us forget the real world. It proves you can still make an entertaining fun movie. Everyone was giving their lines and direction. They were quite simply told be yourself and either use a phone or tablet to record yourself on the phone. They are all looking to be in the new Horrortales.666. There is also a running joke about wanting to be host. It’s all in good fun and will have everyone guessing to see what celebrities are next.

Do talk about the directors of the other segments of Horrortales.666 Part 2, and what made them the perfect choices for your anthology?

Matt Cannon brings us Open House. An amateur realtor's plans to straighten up her first property could spell disaster after a strange decoration left over from the previous owners could spell a sale from hell. Matt impressed me with his movie Hexercise, I saw his brilliance and wanted him to do it again for this movie. What he accomplished in Hexercise was genius and a risk. But the payoff was amazing.

Marcel Fabani brings us The Last Farewell of Mr. Pérez. This is the strange story of a man who discovers who he is and what his mission is during his last day on Earth. Marcel and I have been talking for a while now. We have been wanting to do a film for a while together. This gave us that opportunity. Marcel is such a genius and can tell so much with limited time and actors. His writing and filming is incredible and so powerful, I wanted him to be able to express it on here and have a wider audience experience it.

Joe Sherlock [Joe Sherlock interview - click here] brings us The Present. A loving couple in a seemingly normal neighborhood have a quiet dinner at home. The wife has a surprise present for her husband. Who knows what goes on in this hotbed of suburban lust and depravity? Joe and I have been working together over 20 years. People love his style and type of movie he makes. He has a cult following and always delivers. There was no way I was making this without him.

Derek Braasch brings us Slay Ride. It's Christmas time once again in the North Pole and Santa is ready to bring laughter and cheer to all the kids in the world, but one devious act changes all of that causing Santa to not be in the holiday spirit. Derek is such a nice fun creative person I had to have him. His approach to this short drew me in right away. People are going to love it. It truly is a Horrortale. I liked him so much he will be back for the next installment.

You of course also have to talk about Horrortales.666 Part 2's rather star-studded cast for a bit, and why exactly these people?

Everyone in this movie is a friend and was an asset to the production. I was really blessed to have such a great team behind and in front of the cameras. This movie just came together magically. My good friend Kimberly Lynn Cole was in the original and this time once again stars but also produces. She is an asset and truly fun person to work with. I would have to dedicate this whole interview just talking about each and every person. I will just say everyone is going to like what they see.

Being pretty much the showrunner on Horrortales.666 Part 2, how much say did you have when it came to the other segments, in regards to style, story, and cast?

With an anthology I always handle it the same way. You are told we need a horror story. Your choice, but has to be approved by me and Dustin. After approval we give them a time limitation and delivery schedule. I want these filmmakers to have complete freedom and be able to use this as a showcase for their talent. These movies get seen, and you never know who sees them. It’s a walking resume.

The $64-question of course, when and where will Horrortales.666 Part 2 be released?

Horrortales.666 Part 2 will be released Summer 2021. We are ahead of schedule thanks to Joel D. Wynkoop and his editing. He took a break from Craiglon Incident 2 to make this masterpiece.

Will there ever be a Horrortales.666 Part 3, and/or any other future projects you'd like to share?

Horrortales.666 Part 3 is in development and will be released in Winter 2023. Too early to give too many details, but Joel D Wynkoop will host and myself and Dustin will produce again.
