Your upcoming movie Ted Bundy had a Son a.k.a. Amateur
Porn Star Killer 4 - in a few words, what's it going to be about?
It has evolved a bit since first announcing it. We are actually changing
it into an anthology film. I'm now developing it with Eric Pereira (American
Girls). So far we've attached directors Ryan Nicholson (Gutterballs)
[Ryan Nicholson interview -
click here] and Anthony Spadaccini (Head Case). Sean Cain (Jurassic
City) [Sean Cain interview -
click here] has expressed interest, and so has James Cullen Bressack
(Blood
Lake: Attack of the Killer Lampreys) [James
Cullen Bressack interview - click here]. We've also brought on board horror
director/adult superstar Aramis Sartorio (The Gruesome Death of Tommy
Pistol) [Aramis
Sartorio interview - click here], and I'm hoping to get my favorite adult star, Skin Diamond, on
board as well.
As far as what it's about? Well, I don't want to give too much away just
yet, but it involves the murder investigation of what may or may not be a
victim of Brandon's. It will still keep the found-footage realism, with
added bits about his media presence over the past decade, reflecting the
trilogy's own self over the past decade, and blurring the line, once
again, between reality and fiction.
What
prompted you to return to the Amateur
Porn Star Killer series after a hiatus of roughly half a decade, and what will
set Ted Bundy had a Son apart from the earlier movies?
I never wanted to make a 4th, hell even a 2nd. With the
2nd I found
room to play with the character more. With the 3rd I felt lost. I was very
against making another after that. But I've had so many requests from
people over the years. And eventually, after realizing and seeing how much
life these films had, and how far I'd come since then, I decided,
"you know what, it might be interesting to take a look at these again
at this point in my life." I've changed, so the character will likely
change. And as Eric puts it, "what a dream for an actor, to keep
coming back to a character years after years as you, yourself, grow."
The difference will not only be just that but of course gathering other
directors from all backgrounds to participate. Plus working with a
producer, a little bit of a production, a crew. But all with people who
respect the series.
Other
than the earlier films of the series, what are your sources of inspiration
when dreaming up Ted Bundy had a Son, and since you already mention
him in the title, how does Ted Bundy factor into all of this? Brandon
is a spitting image of Ted Bundy. If Ted Bundy had had a son who grew up
to be like him, he'd be Brandon. He'd also be Brandon's age. The
inspiration? What if Bundy hadn't been caught? And why hasn't Brandon been
caught? This day and age, with the internet, and cameras everywhere, on
every person, every block, how does one get away with mass murder, rape,
etc? And after all of these years, and advances in technology, and Brandon
being an amateur filmmaker, how would he progress? What
can you tell us about the intended look and feel of your movie? Think
of it like a mix between found footage, grindhouse trailers, and Robert
Downy Jr.'s sensationalized news broadcast and reporting in Natural Born
Killers. I
presume you will play the lead in Ted Bundy had a Son - so what
will you draw upon to bring him to life, and how difficult is it to play a
character like Brandon?
Yes, I'll be playing him in my segment but not the segments by the
other directors.
I simply draw upon Ted Bundy to bring Brandon to life, as well as my
own instincts as a filmmaker and as an actor.
And is it easy? Hell no. Well, ok, I strangely do find it horrifyingly
easy to do. But not to come back from without repercussion. It fucks with
your psyche, big time. It's not an easy place on the mind that's for sure,
and it's not fun.
Have you found your female lead
yet, and if yes, why exactly her? And if not, what qualities are you looking for
in an actress to be in Ted Bundy had a Son? We shot
one small portion of the film already. But we need to cast the lead. We're
looking for a young Latino girl, who looks 18, independent, strong, and
sexy in an everyday girl kind of way. Of course she has to also be okay
with graphic sexual content and violence. As
far as I know, you're currently running a fundraiser for Ted Bundy had
a Son - so what can you tell us about your fundraising efforts? It's
so hard fundraising, I've never been quite sure how to do it. But now that
we've turned the film into an anthology we're going to be relaunching the
campaign once we get everybody on board confirmed, so I'm hoping that with
multiple filmmakers attached, all with their own individual fan bases,
that we can really pump it up and move forward. [Current IndieGoGo,
if you want to donate now: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ted-bundy-had-a-son-an-amateurpornstarkiller-saga] Once
your funds are raised, what's the schedule - and any idea when and where the
film might be released onto the public yet (and I do know it's waaay too early to ask,
probably)? We do already have a distributor! We just need
to get it financed (usually this is the opposite) and get it shot. Once
that happens we'll see what kind of release they're able to do for it. But
it will be out as long as people help out and donate when we get the new
campaign going on.
Any future projects beyond Ted Bundy had a
Son you'd like to talk about?
I'm also working on Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance, the long awaited
sequel to the cult classic from the 90's. We got George Lazenby (James
Bond) on board, the original Samurai Cop stars, plus Kayden Kross, maybe
even John Cassavetes favorite Seymour Cassel, and more.
We're releasing My Name is A by anonymous on DVD finally! It will be
out September 23, 2014 from WildEye. It will also be available in other
formats very soon under a new title, Alyssa: Portrait of a Teen
Killer.
We also got the Amateur Porn Star Killer box set coming out next month
with the whole trilogy (in 2D, like it should have been), plus both
versions of Amateur Porn Star Killer
2. There's a brand new documentary
about the trilogy and new interviews included in the set.
I'm briefly in a film called Hunter coming out in September. I'm also
briefly in Jurassic City release TBA. Dysmorphia comes out in August (an
anthology I made a film for) and I believe Theatre of the Deranged 2
(another anthology I'm in) comes out real soon.
I'm still editing The Owl in Echo Park and currently shooting a film
called Got Got ill (aka The Untitled Bully Project) about bullying and
school shootings.
