Totally out of the blue, Dixie (Kelly Rutherford) is handed a baby by
her boyfriend Brisco's (Bruce Campbell) small-fry nemesis Peter Hutter
(John Pyper-Ferguson). Brisco and Lord Bowler (Julius Carry) immediately
pick up pursuit, but are knocked out by a gang of martial arts-savvy
hooded fighters who take Hutter captive. Since the baby's Asian, and
Brisco and Bowler's attackers might be as well, they, now also joined by
new associate Whip Morgan (Jeff Phillips) ask Brisco's Chinese friend Lee
Pow (James Hong), who reveals the baby's the son of the Emperor, and those
after him are members of the secret society Black Lotus, let by one
badman, Chan (Tzi Ma), who wouldn't you know it is the killer of Brisco's
mother. Dixie and Whip hide out at Bowler's home with the baby, but soon
find themselves on the run from the Black Lotus. They seek refuge in the
Chinese embassy, only to find the ambassador happens to be Chan himself.
Brisco and Bowler eventually come to the rescue, but are quickly
outnumbered and find themselves chained up in the dungeon beneath the
embassy, together with Whip and Hutter, while Dixie is allowed upstairs to
take care of the baby. Brisco though manages to free himself, and he makes
it upstairs to, dressed up as a waiter, free Dixie and the baby during a
social function, and ultimately he and the whole gang escape the embassy
through the sewers. However, run as they may, they're soon once again
cornered by the Black Lotus - but when it looks like everything's over for
them, Lee Pow arrives with a gang of Chinese born locals to turn the tide
in the good guys favour, and ultimately Brisco even gets a chance to
avenge his mother's death. Now seen from the perspective of
almost 30 years later, this episode hasn't aged too well due to its
depictions of Asians and Asian villains, but that aside it's ... actually
a rather mediocre episode. Sure, one never tires to watch Bruce Campbell
and Julius Carry doing their shtick, and they're in fine form here, just
the story, despite the addition of a Chinese secret society and some (not
all that well-staged) martial arts, flows along a bit too routinely to
leave much of an impression.
