It transpires that Brisco's (Bruce Campbell) and sometimes lover Dixie
(Kelly Rutherford) carries a wax pressing of a conversation between a
presidential hopeful and super-criminal Bly - and that's enough for the
politician in question to send hitman Winston Smiles (David Warner) after
him. Now Brisco is tasked with guarding her life, and so is his main
competition Lord Bowler (Julius Carry), if by a different agency. They all
soon run into Smiles and make narrow escape after narrow escape, and
manage to stay just out of his reach until they reach the monastery where
Dixie has hidden the wax cylinder, a hiding place only few know about. The
monastery is attacked by Smiles and his gang, but again, Brisco, Dixie and
Bowler manage to make a narrow escape, and finally deliver Dixie and the
cylinder safely into the hands of Brisco's superior Socrates Poole
(Christian Clemenson) - where it's found out that Poole's new secretary
Rita (Andrea Parker), whom he has hopelessly fallen for, is actually an
agent of Smiles', and she has already let Smiles into the building to blow
up the place. It all ends happily in the end, even if the place still gets
blown up ... It's entertaining enough, and David Warner sure
makes a great villain, but at the same time it's not one of the more
special episodes of the series, as despite all the chases and excitement,
it feels the thing is mostly going through the motions without any real
spark to it. And the subplot about Brisco and Dixie thinking about taking
the next step and settle down really doesn't do much to add excitement.
It's still fun mind you, just not one of the better episodes.
