Too keep it out of the hands of her own son John, Queen mother Eleanor
sends her Bycantine treasure, a ahndfull of plates made from gold with
diamond ornaments to Sir Richard of the Lea (Ian Hunter), a man still
loyal to her and her favourite son King Richard. However, Sir Richard is
also a tad impoverished, and while he would never actually steal from the
Queen mother, he uses the plates to exaggerate his (non-existant) wealth a
little in order to get additional credit from the local merchants - and
successfully so. Problem is of course that eventually the Sheriff's
lef-tenant (William Squire) learns about this and wants to confiscate the
plates - which is where Robin Hood (Richard Greene), who has sworn to
protect tghe Queen Mother's treasure with his life, comes into the
equation, and he sees to it that the lef-tenant not only does not manage
to get the plates but also loses face in front of the Archbishop (John
Longden) when he comes to retrieve them in the Queen Mother's name ... Quite
an amusing episode, first and foremost thanks to Ian hunter as
impoverished aristocrat, who not only has the best lines of the whole
story, he also knows how to deliver them.
