16 year old Anita (Christina Lindberg) is the rare case of a true
nymphomaniac, a woman who feels an absolute compulsion to sleep with men,
whatever men, but without ever having a real orgasm, and after sex, she is
only disgusted by the men, even if they were nice, and by herself. But
still, the next man to sleep with is just around the corner. Anita lives
in a small town, but the men there run out rather qickly, so she picks up
new men, out-of-towners directly at the train station, and eventually she
goes to Stockholm, just for the much wider variety of men.
In Stockholm, right after she had sex with yet another man, she-
literally - bumps
into Erik (Stellan Skarsgard), a young psychology student and musician who
turns out to be the first man to take an honest interest in her, who
realizes her nymphomania is a psychological condition, and who refrains
from having sex with her (even if that's hard), instead he tries to cure
her ... and of course, he has also fallen in love with her. But Anita's
condition strains their relationship when she sleeps with every man in
Erik's vicinity, even all of his bandmembers, and she's not even trying to
hide it. Still, she and Erik eventually have a breakthrough wehn Erik on
one hand finds out that she is a nympho because her parents (Danièle
Vlaminck, Michel David) never really gave her enough love and attention,
and on the other that she can be cured once she has a real orgasm.
For a time, Anita tries really hard to be good, and she tries to
vibrate herself to ecstasy (to no avail), but eventually her nymphomania
wins the upper hand once more, and after she is arrested fter having a
gangbang with 6 South European drugdealers, she falls into the hands of a
female social worker (Berit Agedahl), and before you know it they make
lesbian love and the social worker really gives Anita an orgasm - now
that's what I call dedicated.
Still, Anita doesn't dare to return to Erik now that she's cured and
instead starts work in a stripclub that also features lesbian
performances. There, lovesick Erik finds her eventually and takes her back
no questions ask - and finally the two have sex, and Anita really cums.
Finally, Anita and Erik want to pay her parents a visit to tell them
she is cured, but her parents have changed the locks, ultimately locking
her out of their appartment - which means she is free now for good ...
The concept of Christina Lindberg playing a nymphomaniac is of course
mouth-watering as such, however, the film that's based on this concept is
decidedly less than great: On one hand, there is rather little nudity and
sex in the film considering it's main subject, and sleaze level is rather
low (which is not necessarily a bad thing, on the other hand however, the
film takes itself way too seriously while it presents nothing but a series
of clichés with some superficial and essentially misunderstood
psychologic background paired with a pace that's way too slow for this
kind of film and rather bland dialogue. The film is not all bad though,
the acting is pretty good, especially Lindberg as the misunderstood and
depressive nymphomaniac is quite believable - unfortunately that's not
enough to make Anita a good film.
