It should have been a totally ordinary, boring day for Apo (voiced by
Chris Koehne), a young man who dreams about being a pro skateboarder but
for the time being is stuck in a dead end job flipping burgers at a fast
food joint at a mall while loving lovely Cho (Ao Mikazuri), who works at
the Asian restaurant across the hallway at the local mall while enduring
abuse from his boss and his customers alike, and only his best friend and
colleague Jamal (Ravin Wong) giving him moral support. As mentioned, it
should have been an ordinary, boring day, but today a new Covid
wonder-cure has been introduced before being properly tested, a "cure"
that durns everybody injected into zombies - and suddenly the mall,
incidently ground zero for the zombie virus, is overrun by the
flesh-eating undead, with the military quickly deciding it's a brilliant
idea to just bomb the place to kingdom come. And now it's up to Apo to get
himself, Jamal, Choi and her parents (both voiced by Austyn Goveas) out of
the mall before the army can do their dirty work ...
Notorious director Uwe Boll has a fun voice-cameo as inefficient mall
cop. Now one thing up front, ApoKalypse is not the
most brilliantly animated film ever - in fact, the animation looks very
much on the economic side of things, even a bit hard-handed. But that
doesn't mean ApoKalypse isn't lots of fun, because it
actually really is, a film full of over-the-top humour, biting satire and
its fair share of gross-out scenes. Of course, this isn't a movie for
everyone, as zombie films let alone zombie comedies rarely are, but if
you're in for some undead fun, this is a very entertaining genre ride.
