To end the demon curse he has unintentionally brought upon the earth,
Ash (Bruce Campbell) and his friends Pablo (Ray Santiago) and Kelly (Dane
DeLorenzo) pay a visit to obscure books collector Lionel (Kelson
Henderson), to translate to them some invocations from the Necronomicon -
a visit that's doomed almost from the start when they're almost arrested
by cop Amanda Fisher (Jill Marie Jones) and have to knock her out and cuff
her up. Then Ash has the idea (he would later credit to Pablo) to raise a
minor demon, Eligos (Ben Fransham, voiced by Jared Turner), to tell them
how to end that other demon curse - an idea that doesn't sound too good to
begin with but that really goes awry when Amanda makes another attempt to
arrest Ash during the summoning, which somehow leads to him breaking the
circle that holds the demon ... In the meantime, Ruby Knowby (Ludy
Lawless) is still after Ash and his book, and she doesn't even stop at
torturing the dead to get their whereabouts ... A hilarious
episode, basically because it gets Ash's character of a fallible hero with
bad oneliners and a lack of responsibility, strategy or hindsight, just
right, and hilariously so, while the direction finds the right balance
between comedy and grindhouse-style grittiness, to make this one fun ride
indeed.
