After the ordeal of last
episode, Ash (Bruce Campbell) merely wants to invite his
friends/sidekicks Pablo (Ray Santiago) and Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo) to
dinner in a run-down diner - and maybe make contact with an acquaintance
of his, militia member Lem (Peter Feeney), who's stockpiling weapons -,
but of course, Ash hasn't thought this through and is short on money, so
much so that he tries (and fails) to seduce the waitress (Rachael
Blampied). Meanwhile, mysterious Ruby Knowby (Lucy Lawless) and cop into
it over her head Amanda Fisher (Jill Marie Jones) are hot on Ash's track,
when Ruby inexplicably vanishes in a fire. But Amanda is hell-bent to take
Ash down, and manages to arrive at the diner with her superior, Lieutnant
Boyle (Andrew Grainger) ... just about when the demons attack and possess
Doyle and the waitress, and once again it's only shotguns and Ash's
trusted chainsaw that can take care of the situation - and ultimately,
Amanda joins Ash, Pablo and Kelly on their path to finally destroy the
Necronomicon - even thought they have little idea how ... A fun
episode for sure, and endearing to fans of the original
film trilogy as well, as while it might lack the inventiveness
of the movies, it hits the humour that permeated them just right, and
doesn't shy away from getting bloody should need arise. And it really gets
the character of Ash right - also thanks to Bruce Campbell, who seems to
relish in playing horror's most fallible hero. And really, the scene where
Ash wants to seduce the waitress alone already makes this one worth the
while.
