Bill Bradley (Roy Rogers), a reformed criminal, tours the West with Doc
Mortimer's (Gabby Hayes) Medicine Show as an expert marksman ... however,
it never takes the show long to be driven out of about any town, and this
time, it's no different, except from the fact that this time the show's
wagon is attacked by Ripper (Hal Taliaferro) and his gang of outlaws - and
ironically, it's saved by a gang of men who are blamed for each and every
of Ripper's hold-ups. Soon enough, Bradley begins to realize something
smells mighty rotten ...
Later, Mortimer is cabled 36.000 Dollars, and he collects them fromt he
local bank in 1.000 Dollar bills - which is all the 1.000 Dollar bills
they have ... but soon enough, he is robbed of his money in broad daylight
...
Now Bradley, Doc Mortimer, Ted Carver (Henry Brandon), owner of the
local newspaper, and Linda (Carol Adams), Carver's editor who soon becomes
romantically involved with Bradley, try to look for a culprit, and soon
think they have found him in Jake Marvel (Ralf Harolde), owner of the
local theatre, who is somehow involved with Ripper.
But how to prove it ?
Eventually, our group of heroes makes up a plan to break into the bank
and steal its account book to prove Marvel's account carries Mortimer's
36.000 Dollars since very recently ... but wrong, Marvel's account carries
nowhere near as much money as that ...
So Bradley and Doc Mortimer make up another plan: To clean out the
money transport leaving town that day and hand the money over to the
sympathetic local judge (Herbert Rawlinson) to prove Marvel has sent
away all the beautiful thousand Dollar bills ... but wouldn't you know it,
it's not Marvel who sent away the bills but their so-called friend Carver.
Of course, Carver soon gets wind of the whole affair and has the judge
robbed, then he and the corrupt local Sheriff (Monte Blue) organize a
posse to hunt down Bradley and company (after all they have robbed a money
transport), and they have even prepared a very special ambush, just for
Bradley ... but just before everything is lost, the Judge arrives with the
army, to have the baddies arrested and the names of Roy and company
cleared.
And wouldn't you know it, in the end, Roy decides to become the town's
new Sheriff and marry Linda ...
Not too great a film but an ok B-Western featuring a few interesiting
plottwists, routine action and only few songs by Roy to interrupt the
proceedings.
