Five years ago, Abigail's (Cristina Moody) daughters (Annaliese Curry,
Isabella Leone) were killed in a car accident, and Abigail has never come
over it, especially since the men who have killed them, small time crooks,
got off with a light sentence because of the fumbling of the police
detective in charge (Jon Fiore). In a seemingly unrelated story, four
crooks - Doc (Manny Perez), John (Justin Genna), Smooth (Justin Lombard)
and Nonzo (Alex Joseph) have broken out of prison and chosen Abigail's
house to hide out - and of course they terrorize Abigail plenty - until
they all pass out after drinking from their wine, all but John. And when
they come to, they find themselves tiied up in her basement, Because you
see, the three of them are the crooks who have killed Abigail's children
and John is actually Abigail's husband how has broken them free so Abigail
can have her revenge. And Abigail isn't satisfied with just any kind of
revenge, she has hired a voodoo priest (Jimmy C. Jules) for some poetic
justice. The problem of course is that voodoo justice comes with its own
set of rules, rules Abigail doesn't fully understand .... Now of
course, voodoo has long been a horror staple, even if its rules and
rituals are often very poorly interpreted - and I'll freely admit, I have
no idea how closely this film comes to interpreting voodoo practice. That
said though what this film does get right is showing the religion as a
force of justice rather than an evil power. Sure, the results are bloody
to grotesque, but then again this is a horror movie. What makes this film
though is that it's compellingly told, well-acted, and its tendency to
blur the lines between good and evil helps make this a cool watch that
genre fans are sure to enjoy. |
