While on a patrol, Apollo (Richard Hatch)
and Starbuck (Dirk Benedict) are intercepted by a patrol from another
vesssel carrying humans, the legendary Battlestar Pegasus, commandeered by
Commander Cain (Lloyd Bridges), a legendary warrior thought to have gone
missing in action - along with the Pegasus. Turns out the Pegasus has been
fighting on her own all these years and of course welcomes the arrival of
the Battlestar Galactica for some extra firepower. But the Galactica has
run into troubles of her own, as she and all her entourage have run out of
fuel. Now it's Cain's plan to strike a Cylon town on a nearby planet and
drain it of its fuel supply - an easy task with two battlestars, but
that's too risky for the Galactica's Commander Adama (Lorne Greene), who's
worried about all the vessels accompanying the Galactica that would then
be defenseless. He decides to raid two Cylon fuel ships instead. So a
joint heist of the Viper crews of the Pegasus and the Galactica is
decided, and Cain decides to take one Viper himself ... to shoot the fuel
ship out of space before they can be raided, leaving Adama no choice but
to agree to attack the Cylon town - and just when the traitor Count Baltar
(John Colicos) arrives with three Cylon battlestars. So it's decided to
first sabotage the defenses of the Cylon town which would make it an easy
target for the Galactica to attack, while the Pegasus wards off the Cylon
battlestars - a suicide mission, but Cain has to prove his status as
legendary warrior ... One of the best (double-)episodes of the
series, as it's epic in scope with all the soap opera taking backseat, and
a focus instead on action and effects - and even if the effects do become
repetitive after a while, they're undoubtedly well-conceived. And Lloyd
Bridges turns in a solid performance for sure, but his character also adds
layers to the story as he's more than just another cliché. A pretty cool
watch for sure.
