Remy (Natalie Ruffino Wilson) is a single mother of two, struggling to
make ends meet as a cleaner, so when she's called in for an extra
assignment that pays premium rates, she's not one to turn it down - but
once at her client Dr. Wyatt's (Dean Shortland) place, she finds him tied
to a chair, with his captor, Liam (Kyler Wilson), towering over him. And
once Liam spots her, it doesn't take him long to overpower her and tie her
up as well. Remy and Wyatt make attempt after attempt to escape, but to
little avail. Thing is, Liam doesn't seem to be your typical hostage
taker, he is sympathetic with Remy, and even sees to it that her daughter
gets urgently needed medicine, even if he puts himself in danger for it.
But he definitely hates Wyatt. And Wyatt acts mighty suspicious and is a
little too eager to not let Liam get to his safe. So when with a little
bit of help from Remy Wyatt finally does manage to overpower Liam, she's
no longer too sure that's a good thing ...
A very clever genre piece that starts off with a pretty
standard thriller situation, only to then gradually subvert genre
expectations and playfully veer off into unexpected directions - while
still managing to tell a comprehensible, coherent, and engaging story
throughout that has all its moments of tension and suspense in all the
right places, and that has the audience at the edge of their seats pretty
much throughout. And a solid ensemble keeps things grounded, to make this
one a highly entertaining piece of thriller ginema, with a twist (or two).
