The Bet Dead Casino is an organisation for betting on
deadly (and usually pretty gory) streetfights on the dark web. Of course,
these fights are highly illegal, but by setting them up all over the world
and implanting fighters with chips that can kill them so they won't
snitch, plus they are based at a secret (and heavily guarded) location,
from with company boss Slick Vic (Byron Gibson) and company mascot Jenny
Carnage (Leigh Barwell) transmit the shows. Jenny though is actually Rose,
daughter of Vic's murdered former business partner (Charles O'Neill), and
she's held at the headquarters against her will - while her boyfriend (Ron
Smoorenburg), an accomplished MMA fighter, is forced to participate in the
streetfights and has of late become the organisation's superstar. However,
Rose is not one to be a passive victim, and she still has a couple of aces
up her sleeve to get back at Slick Vic ... Now I have to admit, when
it comes to pure storytelling, this movie's a bit confusing, and that's
probably at least partly owed to the fact that it was shot during Covid
lockdowns and all over the world - so pretty much one was limited with
what one could do. But to be quite honest, the story in this film takes
backseat to the action, and the many streetfights the audeince is
presented with are pretty breathtaking, well executed and excitingly
edited, and they feel very real. And the two leads Leigh Barwell and Byron
Gibson manage to carry the story, even when it makes little sense, so in
all this is well worth a watch.
