The Clamptons (the titular Beverly Hillbillies) return back home to
their hicktown from Beverly Hills for Christmas, where their cousin Pearl
(Bea Benaderet) plays piano in a silent cinema (I don't know why it was
considered such a big joke to suggest they still have silent theatres in
the backwoods in the 1960's, but much so-called humour derives from this).
Pearl has also set her eyes on Mr Brewster (Frank Wilcox), the boss of the
oil company that made the Clamptons rich, but then a local (Paul Winchell)
confesses his love to her. The matter is never resolved. Meanwhile, Elly
May (Donna Douglas), the attractive one of the bunch, revisits her animal
friends - including an eagle who likes to steal fur coats ... not that it
has anything to do with the story, but I like this animal, actually. Tired
jokes and next-to-incompetent storytelling result in an episode of Beverly
Hillbillies that simply isn't very good (not very good as
in pretty bad, actually).
