Kamagaya and Komada are two molecular biologists ... which doesn't
sound at all exciting, but they are the only two persons in the country
able to track down people infected with the demon virus - a virus that
temporarily turns people into flesh-eating demons - and cure them. There
is one problem, Komada is infected with the virus himself, and he is past
cure, but does his best to contain it. Eventually, our two heroes help
Sakaya, a (non-infected) girl who is looking for her psychic grandpa while
also being on the run from a gang of assassins. Somehow Komada senses the
girl and her gramps are connected to the virus and his own fate - and the
fact he has fallen in love with her doesn't hurt, either. Eventually,
Kamagaya, Komada and Sakaya manage to track down her gramps who tells them
that Tabe, a high-ranking politician with hopes of becoming the next
president, is actually a demon who keeps his human form by killing girls
and eating their fresh livers. The actual Tabe is dead now, he just
doesn't know it yet. The very fact that Sakaya's gramps knows about this
though makes him a threat to Tabe's career and life ... Soon, Tabe's men
manage to kidnap Sakaya, to lure her gramps and our two heroes into a
trap, but of course, Tabe couldn't know that Kamagaya was actually
infected. Thing is, the infected Kamagaya is no match to Tabe unless he
sheds all that is human and becomes a full-fledged demon himself - which
is putting out fire with gasoline, since this would just mean replacing
one demon with another. But Tabe has sent his hand away to free Sakaya
while fighting Tabe, which allows him to go all demon but still having a
human part left somewhere - just not on himself. Kamagaya manages to
defeat, kill and annihilate Tabe after a long and violent fight, and he
barely survives if it wasn't for his severed hand that gives him energy
again. But has his plan to remain human despite having turned into a
full-fledged demon worked? As long as you watch this anime and
see the characters piece together their macabre puzzle, it's really
entertaining - but if you invest a little bit of thought afterwards in
what you have just seen, you'll probably figure the whole thing was
nothing to get too excited about - the story is clichéed and derivative,
the direction is just routine, and the characters remain disappointingly
bland, Still, it's at least an hour-long movie you can enjoy while it's
on, just don't think about it too much afterwards.
