When Laura (Britt Leoni) tells her boyfriend Tom (Daniel Egan) there's
a weirdo outside peeking in, he dismisses it, even leaves the house
despite her uneasy feelings to go get some beers and his best friend Carl
(Lincoln Korver) to watch the game tonight. Meanwhile, the weirdo has
somehow gotten into the house ... On their way to Tom's place, he and
Carl do see some weird people who are often bloodied ... but that said,
the game's on tonight, they've got beer, and Carl has invited cute Taylor
(Jacqi Vene) over as well, so why bother about a bunch of weirdos in the
streets. Back at Tom's place, Laura seems somewhat apathetic ... but
still the game's on, and she serves the boys cake and leaves them in peace
otherwise, so why worry about anything ... like the blood in the bathroom.
Thing only really get out of hands though when Taylor arrives - and she's
not exactly human anymore ... Now it is safe to say Bloodbath
& Beyond isn't breaking much new ground in regards to zombie
cinema, the slackers vs zombies premise has been done a few times before.
But that said, this little movie is really entertaining, thanks to a
cleverly-structured script that delivers the punchlines and the violence
when needed, features some witty dialogue in between, and banks on
relateable performances of likeable characters. And the result works
pretty well, actually.
