Young couple Hugh (Brandon Kyle Peters) and Laurie (Danielle Lilley)
have just bought themselves a new home, far far away from the city (or
even any cellphone signal), just to be really on their own - and the first
thing Hugh does is to invite all of his friends to a big party. As it is,
the party gets out of hands, people fall over dead drunk, do all sorts of
drugs, have sex in every room, create utter havoc and the like - all to
the dismay of Laurie, who really wished to get away from the whole college
routine and start afresh. But things get ugly when one of the partiers,
Harmony (Kelly Kilgore), drugged out of her mind and in a fit of jealousy,
breaks into the abandoned house next door, performs some weird ritual ...
and gets killed by a masked woman. The next day, Hugh, Laurie, Harmony's
boyfriend Kenneth (Christopher de Padua), dim-witted Mark (Jose Miguel
Vasquez) and his self-centered girfriend Amber (Emily Cutting) - the
leftovers of the party - go looking for Harmony ... to quickly find out
that leaving house is already a bad idea because the masked woman from the
other night is on the prowl, and she just loooves to kill people - but
even inside our heroes are no longer safe and soon drop like flies ... Basically,
Blood Widow is your typical slasher, with everything in place,
brutal killings, a masked killer with a very clichéed and fragmented
backstory, the occasional sex and nudity that always ends badly, and so on
and so forth - and yet, Blood Widow works better than a whole lot
of them, basically because it takes its time to develop its characters, it
builds up its story organically rather than push the audience from shock
to shock, and while it doesn't shy away from being drastic, the film also
puts a definite emphasis on atmosphere. Plus the cast's pretty decent as
well. In all, even if you're not all that into slashers (and believe me,
I'm not), you might enjoy this one!
