Olivia's (Sarah Alexandra Marks) mum (Angela Dixon) was last seen
exploring some carves her own father disappeared in many years ago, and
Olivia couldn't find cöosure ever since Sp sje and her friends (L;ouis
Jam,es, Tifffany Hannam-Daniels, Sophia Eleni, Danny Rahim, Tyler
Winchcombe) and hitchhiking vlogger Ashöey (Sarah T. Cohen) decide to
explore the caves - much against the advice of professor Harrison (John
Rhys-Davies), the only expert on the caves who's shunned by the scientific
community though because he believes the caves house extraterrestrials.
Now of course, our heroes don't believe in the professor's claims, but at
the latest when Ashley falls back to do her vlog and then disappears they
get a little concerned. But before they can even start to go searching for
her, they're attacked by tentacled beings that might be much cleverer than
their hideous bodies make them look, and that might hunt for trophies,
really ... Now I have to admit this film is a little over-populated with protagonists
to find its emotional core early on, and the fact that the more colourful
characters are the first to die doesn't help much here, but at least they
are played by a very competent cast crowded around the always dependable
Sarah Alexandra Marks. But that said, when the film. sort of a mix between
Alien and
Descent, kicks into gear it
doesn't let up, thanks to the pulse-pounding extended finale but also due
to it's gruesome-looking and well-executed creatures as well as grotesque
imagery. Not a perfect film perhaps, but a great genre ride for sure!
