Sofia (Samara Weaving) is pretty much the international superstar of her
time, and being a recording artist and a moviestar with model looks, she's
pretty much the total package, and of course sbe has a sports superstar,
Rhodes (Jimmie Fails) as her boyfriend. She also has devoted fans, none
more so than Paul (Ray Nicholson), who has already broken into her house
once after knifing her bodyguard Bell (Eric Dane), and was sent to an
asylum after that. But now he has broken out, has teamed up with big man
JH (Patrick Cox) and mad-as-a-hatter Penny (Alba Babtista), and the three
of them have decided to break into Sofia's house again to force her to
marry him - and their plan's not half bad even, they take recovered Bell's
family (Yasmeen Kelders, Catherine Lough Haggquist) hostage to get him out
of the way, they kill Sofia's doorman (David Jacox) and can pretty much
rely on Rhodes to be clumsy enough to take himself out of the picture, and
- well, they might not have taken into account that Sofia's quite
resourceful while Paul's a little bit too delusional for his own good. And
of course that Rhodes might also make a fetching bride ...
Now Borderline has no business being as funny as it is, after all it's
about a violent stalker who will stop at nothingto get what he wants, and
the premise feels real and thus utterly disturbing - and yet the script is
highly ironic, the dialogue is witty, and even much of the violence (and
there's plenty) has a slapstick aspect to it. And the third act is bound
to surprise everybody, even if it makes total sence in hindsight. Add to
hat a first class cast and you've got yourself one pretty hilarious black
comedy for sure.
Borderline will be released on digital in the UK on September 8th, 2025.
