Cameron (Peter Algiers) and Patricia (Brianna Algiers) are a young couple
that have an anniversary coming up - and that's a problem: Sure, they
still love one another, but then again, they're very short on money, so
short that they might only just (or just not) be able to go out for a nice
anniversary dinner - and even that only because the local lobster place
has a buy one get one free special for couples celebrating their
anniversary. But thn they get a tax refund ... that turns out to be a half
million Dollars, or more than they could have ever hoped for. Now it's
very obvious that this has been a mistake by the IRS, and keeping the
money would mean stealing it - but the lure of an unexpected fortune is
just too big, and they decide to keep the money and skip town for a few
days until the thing blows over. Only they soon learn that the money alone
doesn't make them happy, their road trip leads them to weird destinations,
and they can never really shake their being-strapped-for-cash attitude -
and hey, maybe fast food really is as good as eating at a fancy
restaurant. And then they stumble across weirdo Stanley (Anthony Algiers),
and through a case of mistaken identity stumble into a forged arts deal -
and this is where things go decidedly off the rail ...
Now this is a film pretty much as small as it gets, with a mere five
talking roles - and one of them off-screen only -, and very little in
terms of spectacle, or even spectacular sets ... and that's exactly what
makes the movie, as above all it's a very intimate portrayal of the human
condition as such. And while most certainly some of the film's plot is
exaggerated, at its heart it still feels very real and has just the right
amount of humanity to make it work. And that the two leads and their
trials and tribulations feel very relatable indeed only helps to make this
a very cool watch. And if this has at all gotten you interesting, you
