The B-Robos prepare for Christmas celebrations with their kiddie
friends - but one of the kids is unhappy, Yuzuru (Futami Kazuki), because
Christmas Eve is his birthday, and because of the Christmas celebrations,
nobody will remember it. Hit best friend, hydrant-shaped B-Robo Kabutack,
tries to cheer him up, but he only makes matters worse, and as a result,
Yuzuru runs away, and right into the arms of the nasty A-Robos, who
convince Yuzuru they were made by his granddad (Kageki Shimoda), and
gramps wants him to help them gather star pieces. Star pieces are ... oh,
I don't know, but one such star piece turns a toy Santa Claus into the
real thing ... who gives the summer to wintery Tokyo. In the meantime,
Kabutack meets the real Santa Claus - surprisingly a young lady on a
surfboard, but in Santa-uniform - who tells him to give Yuzuru a star
piece for birthday to make up. The B-Robos capture the star piece fueled
Santa and turn him into a toy again, just before the A-Robos attack and
want the star piece attached to toy Santa. But when the fight reaches its
peak, the Judge Robo Tomborg appears and determines the fight over the
star piece should be decided by a one mile race - between the best of the
A-Robos, the best of the B-Robos ... and Kabutack, who just needs the star
piece to become friends with Yuzuru again. Against all odds, Kabutack wins
the race when he coerces an opponent to kick him over the finish line ...
but then the A-Robos kidnap Yuzuru and take him to their dimension, where
he has to learn that it was not his granddad at all who created and now
controls the A-Robos but baddie Doc
Tsudanuma (Takashi Matsuo). Kabutack, the B-Robos and their kiddie
friends soon arm themselves to go to the A-Robos dimension, and they put
up quite a fight, but seem to be doomed anyhow since Kabutack's super
change remote control, which allows him to become a super robot - a
necessity if fighting in the A-Robos' dimension - has fallen into Doc
Tsudanuma's hands. Enter Sharkler, a tooth-brushed enemy to the B-Robos
who nevertheless hates the A-Robos even more so he wants to see them
defeated. He somehow manages to get the remote control away from the
baddie and into the hands of Yuzuru - and once Kabutack is in super-mode
it's smooth sailing. Of course ends happily, and in the end, Santa Claus
makes another appearance, too ... OF COURSE this isn't a great
show, it's just the Christmas special of a childish robo-show - but under
the influence of controlled substances you might nevertheless get a kick
out of it: Basically, the whole thing is unbelievably trippy, somehow
rubber robots from 1970's TV shows seem to have merged with tin toys from
the 1950's and have been granted with transforming abilities way funnier
than anything ever conceived on Transformers and the like.
Add to this a story that makes enjoyably little sense (at least if you're
not familiar with the series as a whole), sets and props rich on primary
colours, and you've got ... well, at least you've got yourself a good
laugh!
