A banker has been killed when delivering a payroll, and his guard Ed
(Bob Terry) has gone missing, and so has the payroll. What's worse, the
banker has been killed by a bullet from Ed's gun ... so everybody is
convinced Ed is the culprit, everybody but his wife Annie (Dorothy Short),
and she calls in Ed's brother Tom, a detective of the Cattle Man's
Protective Association, to investigate.
Except for his conviction that his brother is innocent, Tom has very
little to go on though - but the point is that Ed really is innocent and
held by the gang who has held up the banker because he has hidden the loot
before they could have gotten their hands on it. The point here is that
the gang's boss is Tracy (Roger Wiliams), who is not only a rspectable
lawyer by day but also the fiancé of Celia (Lois Wilde), the dead
banker's daughter. Celia is hell-bent on finding the killer of her father,
and she's convinced Ed is the culprit and Tom is in cahoots with him, but
when she tells Tracy about Tom's arrival, he soon figures out what he's
really here for and gets mighty nervous - so much so that he and his gang
start to leave clues when they don't have to.
Eventually, Celia finds Ed, but to her surprise, she finds hm all tied
up, and in his helpless position, it doesn't take him long to convince her
of his innocence. Tracy's men have in the meantime captured Tom, and when
they return to their hideout, where they keep Ed, Celia only just manages
to hide from their view - but it's a shock to her to find out that her
fiancé is actually her father's killer. Tracy's men now tie up Tom and
use hm to force Ed to sow them where he has hidden the money, but while
they are out, Celia frees Tom, who then catches up with Tracy and company,
and sees that they get their just desserts - while he himself gets the
girl ... Celia, in case you're wondering.
Routine B Western, not too bad and featuring a few not too common
plottwists, but on the other hand not really good either. Still, there are
way worse ways to kill less than an hour.
